India Renews $1.8M Lobbying Deal with Trump Ally Jason Miller in US

· · 3 min read

India has renewed its annual $1.8 million lobbying contract with SHW Partners LLC, led by former Trump adviser Jason Miller. The deal, signed by the Indian Embassy, aims to continue policy outreach and government relations in the US.

The Indian Embassy in Washington has officially renewed its significant lobbying contract with SHW Partners LLC, a firm headed by Jason Miller, a long-time communications adviser to former US President Donald Trump. The new agreement, valued at an annual $1.8 million (approximately Rs 17.1 crore), was signed on April 24 this year and is set to remain in effect until April 23, 2027.

Under the terms of the renewed deal, SHW Partners will receive $150,000 monthly for its services. The firm is tasked with providing strategic advice, tactical planning, and comprehensive government relations support on various policy matters. This outreach extends to the US government, Congress, state governments, academic institutions, think tanks, and other key stakeholders.

Continued Policy Outreach and Influence

This renewal underscores India's commitment to maintaining robust policy outreach and government relations in the United States. SHW Partners was initially engaged by the Indian Embassy last year, shortly after a terror attack in Pahalgam, indicating a strategic alignment for diplomatic and policy advocacy.

Filings under the US Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) reveal Jason Miller's active role in this capacity. A review of SHW's outreach activities shows Miller engaged in numerous phone calls with senior Trump administration officials between January 25 and February 2 this year. These discussions included high-profile figures such as US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

High-Level Engagements and Trade Talks

These high-level communications coincided with significant diplomatic developments. An interim bilateral trade agreement framework between India and the US was announced on February 2, following a phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump. Miller's disclosures for November 2025 to April this year also detail regular conversations with Greer and Bessent, who were involved in critical trade negotiations and Treasury matters, including discussions around a sanctions waiver related to India's purchase of Russian crude oil.

Furthermore, Miller held five discussions in March and April with Francis Brooke, the Acting Assistant Secretary of International Affairs at the Treasury Department, and met with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor three times between November and December 2025.

Who is Jason Miller?

Jason Miller is a seasoned political strategist known for his close ties to Donald Trump. He served as a chief spokesman during Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign and later as an adviser on his 2020 re-election campaign. Miller also previously worked on Senator Ted Cruz's presidential campaign. Lobbying by foreign governments is a legal practice in the United States, requiring firms to register under FARA and disclose their activities periodically.
