BMW Dominates India's Luxury EV Market with 69% Share in H1 2026

· · 3 min read

BMW Group India has captured a commanding 69% share of India's luxury electric vehicle market in the first half of 2026, with EV sales surging 78% year-on-year. Electric vehicles now represent 26% of all new cars sold by the German automaker in the country.

BMW Group India solidified its leadership in the nation's luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment, securing a dominant 69% market share during the first half of 2026. This impressive performance was driven by a substantial 78% year-on-year increase in EV sales, reaching 2,359 units between January and June.

Electric vehicles now account for a significant 26% of all new vehicles sold by BMW Group India, underscoring a strong shift in consumer preference within the luxury market.

Record First-Half Sales Drive Overall Growth

The German luxury carmaker reported its highest-ever first-half sales, delivering 9,075 cars across its brands, marking a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth was fueled by robust demand for electric vehicles, long-wheelbase models, and sports activity vehicles (SAVs).

The second quarter of 2026 also saw strong results, with 4,507 cars delivered between April and June, contributing to a consistent streak of double-digit quarterly growth.

“We have delivered 9,075 cars, but beyond this impressive number, what we are really focused on is continuing our steady double-digit growth in an otherwise challenging environment,” stated Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India.

Brar added, “Our decisive hold on electric mobility has solidified BMW Group India as the number one choice in the luxury EV segment.”

Key Growth Segments: Long-Wheelbase and SAVs

Beyond EVs, long-wheelbase models continued to attract luxury buyers, with 4,428 units sold in the first six months of 2026. This represented a 24% year-on-year growth and accounted for 52% of the company’s total sales, highlighting a preference for premium comfort combined with performance.

Sports activity vehicles also remained a crucial growth engine. BMW and MINI SAV sales surged by 35% year-on-year to 5,926 units, contributing 65% of the company's total sales volumes during the period.

MINI and Motorrad Brands Also Perform Strongly

The MINI brand experienced significant momentum, with sales climbing 70% year-on-year to 504 units. The recently launched MINI Countryman C, introduced in mid-June, has seen strong initial demand. The MINI Countryman remains the brand’s most popular model, followed by the MINI Convertible and MINI Hatch.

BMW Motorrad also saw solid performance, delivering 2,327 motorcycles in the first half of 2026. Deliveries of the new BMW F 450 GS began in late June, with its initial allocation already fully sold out.

Aggressive Product Strategy Ahead

BMW Group India launched 11 new products in the first half of 2026, including notable models like the BMW X3 30d, BMW M440i, BMW X6 M60i, MINI Countryman C, BMW F 450 GS, and BMW M 1000 R. The company plans to introduce 14 more exciting products across its three brands before the end of the year, as part of its ongoing product offensive aimed at sustaining growth.
