Renowned Indian actor Vijay Sethupathi is slated to achieve a career milestone as he becomes the first Indian actor ever to present an award at the prestigious International Emmy Awards. The 54th annual ceremony is scheduled to take place in New York on November 23, bringing together leading television professionals and artists from around the globe.
Sethupathi's selection as a presenter underscores a pivotal moment for Indian entertainment on the international stage. Known for his remarkable versatility, the actor has garnered widespread recognition for his compelling performances across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films, portraying a diverse range of characters with critical acclaim.
Increasing Indian Presence at Global Events
Producer Kavita Gupta, a board member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, played a crucial role in bringing Sethupathi to this global platform. Gupta was also instrumental in securing comedian and actor Vir Das as a host for the International Emmy Awards in 2024. Das made history as the first Indian to host the event, following his 2023 International Emmy win for his comedy special, Vir Das: Landing. Sethupathi's upcoming appearance further solidifies the growing representation of Indian talent at this esteemed event.
India's presence at the 2026 International Emmy Awards extends beyond presenters, with two significant nominations. Netflix's comedy special, Vir Das: Fool Volume, has been nominated in the Best Comedy category, while SonyLIV's series, Real Kashmir Football Club, earned a nomination in the Best Drama Series category. These nominations highlight the expanding international reach of Indian entertainment and the increasing recognition of Indian stories on global platforms.
