India's online fashion market is undergoing a significant transformation, with established giants Myntra and Flipkart experiencing a notable decline in their combined share of festive season orders. A recent report by Fynd for the 2026 festive season reveals that their joint market share plummeted from 89% in 2025 to 76.8% in 2026, indicating a rapidly intensifying competitive landscape.
While Myntra and Flipkart still lead the pack, securing 40.4% and 36.4% of orders respectively, a growing array of alternative marketplaces are steadily eroding their dominance. Platforms such as AJIO, Amazon, JioMart, Nykaa, and Tata CLiQ are collectively capturing a larger slice of the market, reflecting a more fragmented and diverse shopping ecosystem.
Emerging Challengers and Shifting Preferences
The Fynd report, which analyzed transactions across over 65 brands and eight marketplaces during September and October, highlighted the strong performance of emerging players:
- AJIO: Captured 7.3% of festive orders.
- Amazon: Accounted for 5.5% of orders, leveraging its broad product assortment.
- JioMart: Secured 3.8% of the market.
- Nykaa: Gained 2.9%, strengthening its position with curated beauty and fashion offerings.
- Tata CLiQ: Held 2.3%, catering to consumers seeking premium merchandise.
This shift is largely driven by evolving consumer preferences. Value-conscious shoppers are increasingly drawn to platforms like Meesho, while Amazon's extensive reach appeals to a wider audience. Nykaa focuses on curated beauty and fashion, and Tata CLiQ targets the premium segment.
Key Factors Reshaping the Market
Industry analysts point to several factors contributing to this changing dynamic:
Value-Conscious Consumers
Amid household budget pressures, shoppers prioritized affordable purchases during the festive season. However, premium consumption (orders above Rs 3,000) still contributed over 41% of sales value, despite accounting for only 11.8% of transactions, indicating a bifurcated market.
Aggressive Discounting
The average festive discounts surged from 34% to 46%, suggesting consumers are actively comparing prices and are more willing to switch platforms for better deals. This fierce price competition puts pressure on all retailers to offer attractive incentives.
Expansion Beyond Metros
Tier II cities significantly increased their contribution to approximately 35% of orders, up from 19% last year. Eastern India also emerged as a key growth region, accounting for 20.8% of festive purchases. This geographical expansion underscores the importance of regional reach and tailored offerings for marketplaces.
The Road Ahead for Online Fashion Retailers
For established players, the challenge extends beyond simply acquiring new shoppers to retaining them through differentiated assortments, competitive pricing, and reliable fulfillment. As Indian online fashion consumers become more discerning, platform loyalty is giving way to agnostic shopping, compelling all players to innovate and compete harder for every transaction.
