Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone, with its exports crossing the ₹2 lakh crore mark in the fiscal year 2025-26, reaching a total of ₹2,01,241 crore. This represents a substantial increase from approximately ₹88,000 crore recorded in 2017-18, positioning Uttar Pradesh as India's fifth-largest exporting state. The state is actively working to strengthen its standing as a prominent global manufacturing and sourcing base.
UP International Trade Show 4.0
This export growth coincides with preparations for the fourth edition of the UP International Trade Show (UPITS 4.0), scheduled to take place at the India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida from September 25 to 29. The event aims to further boost the state's international trade presence.
Key Export Hubs and Product Categories
Gautam Buddha Nagar, encompassing Noida, plays a crucial role in the state's export success, contributing nearly half of the total exports at ₹97,703 crore. Other significant exporting districts include:
- Ghaziabad: ₹18,728 crore
- Kanpur Nagar: ₹10,823 crore
- Moradabad: ₹10,639 crore
- Agra: ₹8,907 crore
In terms of product categories, electrical machinery and electronics lead the way, accounting for ₹46,960 crore. Meat and meat products follow with ₹25,756 crore, and woven garments contribute ₹16,657 crore to the state's export basket.
Industrial Expansion and Investment
The surge in exports is underpinned by a notable expansion in industrial capacity across Uttar Pradesh. The number of registered factories in the state has more than doubled, growing from approximately 14,000 in 2017 to around 32,000 currently. In FY2023-24 alone, 6,847 new factories were added, with an additional 8,000 projected for the subsequent fiscal year.
Major companies, including Samsung, Dixon, Lava, and the HCL-Foxconn joint venture, have significantly expanded their operations within the electronics manufacturing clusters of Noida and Greater Noida. Growth is also evident in the defence corridor and traditional manufacturing hubs like Bhadohi and Agra.
Supportive Export Promotion Policy
Uttar Pradesh's Export Promotion Policy 2025-30 provides robust incentives to encourage export activities. These include:
- A 40% capital subsidy for the development of export infrastructure.
- Reimbursement of up to 75% for certification and marketing costs.
- 30% support for air and sea freight charges.
- A 50% subsidy on export credit insurance.
Ambitious Future Targets
Looking ahead, Uttar Pradesh has set an ambitious export target of $50 billion, equivalent to roughly ₹4 lakh crore, by FY2030. While approximately 60% of current exports are directed to five key countries—the US, UK, UAE, Germany, and Nepal—the state is actively exploring opportunities to expand its market access to regions such as Africa, Latin America, and Central Asia.
