S. Sathish Kumar, the visionary Founder and Managing Director of Chennai-based DAC Developers, recently received the prestigious “GLOBAL CHANGE MAKER AWARD 2026” from UNESCO. The accolade was presented during the Second World Summit on Sustainable Health and Well-Being, held at the Asia-Pacific Headquarters of the United Nations.
A Tamil Perspective on Global Sustainability
During the summit, Dr. Sathish Kumar Santhanam, as he was referred to, offered a distinct Tamil perspective to the international dialogue on resilience, sustainability, and human well-being. His address, titled “From Our Roots to Our Future: Building for Generations,” explored how thoughtful urban planning and the built environment can foster healthier, safer, and more resilient communities for future generations.
Dr. Kumar drew inspiration from ancient Tamil engineering and architectural marvels. He cited the Kallanai Dam, an enduring example of foresight and engineering excellence, and the Brihadisvara Temple, renowned for its precision and timeless design. These historical structures served as powerful metaphors for building with longevity and public purpose in mind.
Echoing Timeless Wisdom
In a poignant moment, Dr. Sathish Kumar echoed the words of former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, invoking the ancient Tamil proverb: “Yaadhum Oore; Yaavarum Kelir.” This profound saying, penned by Kaniyan Pungundranar, translates to “Every place is our home. Everyone is our kin,” underscoring a universal message of unity and shared responsibility.
His speech also outlined a vision for future-ready communities, integrating crucial elements such as water security, clean energy, food resilience, advanced technology, harmonious nature integration, affordability, and strong human connections. Dr. Kumar articulated a bold philosophy:
“The next leap in human longevity will not come from medicine alone. It will come from the built world we choose to create today.”
As the leader of DAC Developers, established in 2014, Dr. Sathish Kumar Santhanam champions a broader mission: to construct inclusive and resilient communities that enhance societal strength and contribute significantly to national development.
