HyFun Foods Targets Rs 2,000 Crore IPO
HyFun Foods, a prominent supplier of frozen food products to global fast-food chains like McDonald's and KFC, is preparing for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of up to Rs 2,000 crore by late 2028. According to CEO Haresh Karamchandani, as reported by Reuters, the frozen foods manufacturer intends to begin preparations for the public issue by mid-2027.
The bulk of the IPO, primarily comprising new shares, is designed to fuel the company's ambitious expansion plans. HyFun Foods aims to significantly increase its production capacity and intensify its focus on the rapidly growing domestic Indian market, shifting its revenue balance from exports to local demand.
Capitalizing on India's Frozen Food Boom
India's frozen food sector is experiencing a significant surge, driven by consumers seeking convenience amidst the quick-commerce boom. Products like french fries, pizzas, and dumplings are gaining traction as household preferences evolve beyond traditional freshly cooked meals.
"The industry is at the cusp of a shift from fresh to frozen," Karamchandani stated, highlighting a pivotal change in Indian culinary habits. This trend underpins HyFun's growth strategy and its decision to pursue a substantial public offering.
Shifting Revenue Focus
Currently, HyFun Foods generates approximately three-fourths of its revenue from exports to over 40 countries. However, Karamchandani anticipates this share will reduce to about half within the next five years, as domestic demand continues to escalate. The Indian food services industry is projected to expand significantly, from around $90 billion to $150 billion by the end of the decade, according to Redseer Strategy Consultants.
While global restaurant chains currently account for about 40 percent of HyFun’s domestic revenue, this proportion is expected to decrease to approximately 30 percent as the company broadens its local sales footprint. HyFun's diverse client portfolio also includes major domestic players such as Blue Tokai, PVR Cinemas, and Wow Chicken.
IPO Preparations Underway
The company is strategically positioning its planned IPO around the robust growth potential within India's frozen foods market. With preparations slated to commence in 2027, HyFun Foods is set to expand its capacity and strengthen its presence across the domestic market, aiming for a successful listing by late 2028.
