Larry Page Joins $300 Billion Club as Alphabet Stock Surges on Buffett Investment

· · 2 min read

Google co-founder Larry Page's net worth soared to over $300 billion after Alphabet shares jumped. The surge followed news that Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway had significantly increased its investment in the tech giant.

Google co-founder Larry Page's estimated net worth has surpassed the $300 billion mark, reaching an estimated $301.7 billion. This significant increase came on July 15, following a notable surge in Alphabet's stock price, which climbed by 3.9% to approximately $373 per share.

Buffett's Strategic Investment Fuels Alphabet Growth

The latest boost to Alphabet's stock was primarily driven by an announcement from legendary investor Warren Buffett. In an interview, Buffett confirmed that Berkshire Hathaway initiated its first investment in Alphabet last year and had since raised its stake, expressing regret for not investing sooner. Berkshire Hathaway's holding now includes more than 58 million Alphabet shares, valued at approximately $21 billion at current market levels. Furthermore, Alphabet recently secured a commitment from Berkshire to purchase $10 billion in newly issued stock to support its ambitious expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

This market movement also positively impacted fellow Google co-founder Sergey Brin, whose fortune rose by $7.3 billion, bringing his net worth to an estimated $278.2 billion.

AI Spending and Market Performance

Alphabet's shares have shown robust performance this year, advancing nearly 18% and outperforming the Nasdaq's 12% gain. The company, like other major technology firms, has substantially increased its spending to meet the escalating demand for artificial intelligence products and services.

The tech giant recently reported annual revenue exceeding $400 billion for the first time, a milestone attributed to strong growth across its Google Services and Google Cloud segments. Google Cloud revenue alone saw a 48% increase. Alphabet projects its capital expenditure could reach up to $185 billion in fiscal 2026, following a $105 billion expenditure in the previous year, underscoring its commitment to AI development.

Global Wealth Rankings Shift

According to Forbes, Larry Page now ranks as the world's second-richest person, with Sergey Brin in third place, trailing only Elon Musk. Warren Buffett, whose investment spurred this latest wealth surge, holds the tenth position globally with a fortune of $139.1 billion.
