· · 2 min read

India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for June 2026 soared to ₹1,94,812 crore, marking a 13.9% increase year-on-year. Robust import tax revenues were a key driver, pushing total collections closer to the ₹2 lakh crore milestone.

New Delhi – India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections demonstrated strong growth in June 2026, reaching a total of ₹1,94,812 crore. This figure represents a significant 13.9 percent increase compared to the ₹1,71,105 crore collected in June of the previous year.

The latest numbers indicate a sustained positive trend, following May's collections of ₹1.94 lakh crore, which saw a 3.2 percent year-on-year rise. The consistent performance brings the nation's monthly GST revenue closer to the coveted ₹2 lakh crore mark, signaling robust economic activity and improved tax compliance.

Key Drivers of Growth

A primary contributor to June's impressive GST collections was the substantial increase in import tax revenue. Gross import revenue surged by 34.6 percent, climbing to ₹60,038 crore from ₹44,608 crore recorded in the same period last year. This strong performance in import duties highlights increased trade and economic engagement.

In contrast, gross domestic revenue also saw a healthy uptick, growing by 6.5 percent to ₹1,34,774 crore, up from ₹1,26,505 crore year-on-year. The net GST revenue, after accounting for refunds, stood at ₹1,62,377 crore in June, an 11.2 percent increase from ₹1,45,984 crore a year ago. Total refunds processed during the month amounted to ₹32,436 crore, a 29.1 percent rise.

State-wise Performance Overview

Several Indian states showcased remarkable growth in their GST collections for June. Uttar Pradesh led the pack with a 19 percent increase, closely followed by Assam at 17 percent. Other states reporting strong growth included Punjab (14 percent), Gujarat (12 percent), and Maharashtra (9 percent), indicating widespread economic recovery and increased consumption across diverse regions.

However, some states experienced a slight decline in their GST revenues. Tamil Nadu registered a 2 percent decrease, while Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh both saw a 5 percent decline in their collections for the month of June. These variations underscore the differing economic dynamics and consumption patterns across the country.

The consistent upward trajectory of June GST collections is a positive indicator for the Indian economy, reflecting resilience and a broadening tax base.
