Apple is reportedly considering a significant departure from its usual pricing strategy with the upcoming launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series. A new leak suggests the tech giant may increase prices across its iPhone lineup, impacting not only the new Pro models but also existing generations still on sale.
Why the Price Hike?
Traditionally, Apple reduces the cost of older iPhone models following a new generation's introduction. However, rising component costs appear to be forcing a different approach this year. According to tipster Yogesh Brar, who shared insights on X, a global memory supply squeeze is a key factor. DRAM prices have surged as chipmakers prioritize AI data centers, while NAND costs have also seen an increase.
This isn't Apple's first price adjustment this year; the company previously raised prices for several Mac, iPad, and smart-home products, though iPhones were excluded from those earlier revisions.
Which iPhones Could Become More Expensive?
The reported price increase, estimated at $100 (approximately ₹10,000), could take effect around September 8, coinciding with the iPhone 18 Pro series debut. For consumers in India, this means models like the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17e could see their starting prices rise significantly.
