Adani Enterprises Settles US Sanctions Case for $275M, Stocks in Focus

· · 2 min read

Adani Enterprises (AEL) has settled with the US Treasury's OFAC over alleged Iran-linked LPG transactions, agreeing to pay $275 million. The resolution, without admitting guilt, places Adani Group stocks in market focus.

Adani Enterprises (AEL) has reached a significant settlement with the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regarding alleged sanctions violations. The Indian conglomerate's flagship company announced it would pay $275 million to resolve claims related to Iran-linked liquified petroleum gas (LPG) transactions. This development has brought several Adani Group stocks into sharp focus on the stock exchanges.

Details of the OFAC Settlement

The settlement, which Adani Enterprises states is “without admitting the allegations,” was officially announced by OFAC via an Enforcement Release dated May 18, 2026. This agreement comes after an extensive investigation into LPG imports conducted by the company between November 2023 and June 2025. The agreed-upon payment of $275 million is notably less than the maximum statutory penalty of $384,208,088.

AEL attributed this reduction to its substantial cooperation with the investigation, proactive disclosure of findings, and the absence of prior penalty notices from OFAC within five years leading up to the relevant transactions. The company also highlighted that its nascent LPG business constituted a minor portion of its overall revenue, representing less than 1.5 percent of its total consolidated revenue for 2025.

Related SEC Action Involving Gautam Adani

In a separate but related development, Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani are involved in a civil complaint filed by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in November 2024. Adani Green Energy, while not a party to this specific proceeding and facing no charges itself, informed stock exchanges that Gautam and Sagar Adani have consented to a final judgment. This includes paying civil penalties of $6 million and $12 million, respectively, without admitting or denying the allegations made in the civil complaint.
