· · 2 min read

Lakshmanan Meyyappan earned the Guinness World Record as the youngest Chartered Accountant, qualifying at just 16 years old. Now 21, he works in investment research in Dubai, pursuing further finance qualifications.

Lakshmanan Meyyappan, an India-born finance professional, has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's youngest Chartered Accountant. He achieved this remarkable feat at the age of 16 years and 170 days, qualifying in Dubai, UAE, on June 30, 2021.

A Record-Breaking Path to Finance

Meyyappan's journey into professional finance began unusually early. He started preparing for the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification shortly after completing his Class 10 board examinations, dedicating himself to studies during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. He commenced the program at 15 and completed it in approximately one year, culminating in his record-setting qualification.

His employer, Century Financial, a UAE-based investment firm, confirmed his recognition in February 2026, noting his age at 16 years and 141 days when he received the accolade.

Beyond the Race for Qualifications

Despite his rapid ascent, Meyyappan emphasizes that his motivation was not speed. As quoted by Khaleej Times, he stated, "This milestone means a lot to me, but I have never approached qualifications as a race." His focus has consistently been on fostering curiosity and developing a deep understanding of finance that extends beyond examination requirements, aiming for skills with long-term relevance.

He reflected on his LinkedIn, acknowledging that becoming an ACCA affiliate at 16 and completing all levels of the CFA by 18 felt "surreal." He credits the unexpected extra time during the pandemic lockdowns for allowing him to intensely focus on his studies.

Current Pursuits and Future Goals

Now 21, Meyyappan is based in Dubai, where he applies his expertise in investment research and financial market analysis. His professional qualifications have expanded to include the CFA charter, and he is currently pursuing an MSc in Finance, demonstrating a continuous commitment to learning and professional development.

Beyond his rigorous academic and professional life, Meyyappan maintains a unique creative interest: designing and building watches. His career trajectory, from a record-breaking qualification to active involvement in financial markets and ongoing education, highlights the impact of focused learning and professional guidance in the finance sector.
