Adani CNG Breaks Rs 100 Mark in Ahmedabad; Fuel Prices Climb Across India

· · 3 min read

Adani CNG has surpassed Rs 100 per kilogram in Ahmedabad for the first time, reaching Rs 100.77. This follows price hikes by Green Gas and Mahanagar Gas across Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai, driven by rising global gas costs and winter demand.

Adani CNG Crosses Rs 100 in Ahmedabad

Motorists in Ahmedabad are now paying over Rs 100 per kilogram for Adani CNG, marking a significant milestone as prices crossed the century mark for the first time. The latest increase saw Adani CNG rise by Rs 2.30 per kg, from Rs 98.47 to Rs 100.77. This surge brings CNG prices in the city remarkably close to petrol rates, which currently stand at Rs 101.83 per litre.

Tansukh Patel, treasurer of the Federation of Gujarat Petroleum Dealers Association, confirmed the development, highlighting the impact on the estimated 50 Adani CNG stations across Ahmedabad. In Vadodara, a neighbouring city in Gujarat, CNG prices also saw an increase, now retailing at Rs 98.95 per kg.

Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai See Price Revisions

The price adjustments are not limited to Gujarat. Green Gas Limited announced an increase in CNG retail prices across five cities in Uttar Pradesh, effective from November 6, 2026. Lucknow and Agra experienced a Re 1 per kg hike, pushing prices to Rs 108 per kg. Unnao witnessed the steepest jump of Rs 2.25 per kg, raising its retail price from Rs 103.75 to Rs 106 per kg, while Ayodhya and Sultanpur also saw prices rise to Rs 106 per kg.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai and its adjoining areas, Mahanagar Gas Limited implemented a Re 1 per kg increase, taking the revised rate to Rs 90 per kg. This marks the sixth price hike since January and a cumulative increase of Rs 9 per kg since April, significantly impacting local commuters.

Rising Global Costs Drive Fuel Price Hikes

Suppliers attribute these widespread price revisions to several factors, primarily the escalating procurement costs of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG). Companies like Green Gas Limited and Mahanagar Gas Limited cited increased winter demand and persistent uncertainties in global gas supplies as key drivers. The input gas costs, heavily linked to international gas indices, have been on an upward trajectory, forcing companies to pass on the burden to consumers.

Impact on Motorists and Transport Operators

The successive increases in CNG prices are adding to the financial strain on a broad spectrum of users, from private motorists to commercial transport operators. Autorickshaw and taxi unions, already grappling with higher operating expenses, are considering demands for further fare revisions if fuel costs continue their upward trend. Thampi Kurien, president of an autorickshaw union, noted an estimated impact of around Rs 4 on fares due to the latest increase and indicated that further significant price hikes could trigger another fare revision request within six months if overall operating costs rise by 25%.
