Former US President Donald Trump delivered a strong message of support for India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that India could rely on him “100%.” The remarks were part of a recorded address played during an event at the American Embassy in New Delhi, celebrating 250 years of American independence.
US Ambassador Sergio Gor presented Trump's message live to an audience of senior Indian and American officials. In his address, Trump expressed deep admiration for the Indian Prime Minister. “I love the Prime Minister. Modi is great. He's my friend. I'm a big, big fan of Prime Minister Modi,” Trump stated.
Highlighting the strength of the bilateral relationship, Trump reiterated, “You're great. We've never been closer to India, and India can count on me 100% and our country. If they ever need help, they know who to call. They call right here.” He also briefly touched upon America's economic performance, claiming a “record economy” and “record stock market.”
Separately, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed concerns regarding the stability of US-India ties under the current administration. Rubio firmly rejected claims of any weakening in the relationship, asserting, “The US-India relationship has not lost any momentum.”
"I don't view our relation with any country in the world as coming at the expense of our strategic alliance with India."
— Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State
During a joint appearance with India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Rubio emphasized that America's engagement with other nations, including Pakistan, should not be perceived as detrimental to its partnership with India. He also lauded Jaishankar as a “truly wise gentleman,” expressing immense esteem and respect for the Indian foreign minister.
