Shehzad Poonawalla, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has once again offered his resignation from the party. In a letter dated August 17, Poonawalla informed BJP national president Nitin Nabin that he wishes to be relieved from his role and primary party membership, citing urgent financial and personal circumstances.
This latest offer follows an initial resignation submission on July 30, which the BJP had reportedly asked him to reconsider. However, after what he described as "long and hard contemplation," Poonawalla decided to press for his departure. He conveyed his final decision via a post on X (formerly Twitter), including a copy of his resignation letter.
Reasons for Departure
Poonawalla emphasized that his decision was not driven by any sense of dissatisfaction or hurt. Instead, he attributed it to "pressing emergency financial and personal circumstances." He also alluded to "events of the last few days" involving certain individuals, about whom he had previously informed the party leadership.
In his letter, Poonawalla stated, "I am only leaving the Vyasvastha (system), not the Vyakiti (individual) or Vichar (ideology)." This suggests a continued alignment with the BJP's principles and leadership despite his exit from a formal party role.
Gratitude and Future Plans
Poonawalla expressed his "highest regard" and gratitude towards several prominent BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Nitin Nabin, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh. He also thanked the party for the "platform and opportunities" provided over the past five years.
Looking ahead, Poonawalla confirmed his intention to move into the private sector due to his stated financial and personal emergencies. He affirmed that he would continue to support Prime Minister Modi and the BJP's vision and work "wherever possible and in whatever format possible."
