Purple Style Labs IPO Details Emerge
Purple Style Labs (PSL), the company behind the prominent luxury fashion platform Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, is reportedly gearing up to launch its initial public offering (IPO) by the end of August. The IPO is expected to raise ₹660 crore, following the Securities and Exchange Board of India's (SEBI) approval earlier this year. This public debut marks a significant step for PSL in the luxury retail sector.
Fund Utilization and Bankers
Abhishek Agarwal, who holds a 27.10% stake in PSL, leads the company's expansion plans. Proceeds from the IPO, channeled through its wholly-owned subsidiary PSL Retail, are primarily earmarked for fulfilling lease liabilities associated with its experience centers and back-end offices across India. A portion of the funds will also be directed towards sales and marketing initiatives and general corporate purposes. Axis Capital and IIFL Capital Services have been appointed as the bankers for the issue.
From Online Label to Omnichannel Platform
PSL's journey began with the acquisition of Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop in 2018, transforming it from a ₹5 crore online venture into a comprehensive omnichannel luxury fashion destination. Today, Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop boasts an extensive catalog of over 2 lakh products from more than 1,300 designers. Its reach extends through an online platform and 14 physical experience centers across India and London. The company is further expanding its physical footprint with new Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio locations in Mumbai and a proposed outlet on Madison Avenue in New York.
The platform recorded a gross merchandise value (GMV) exceeding ₹588 crore in FY25, with an average order value of ₹56,106. Notably, physical stores in India reported an average order value approximately 2.5 times higher than the online channel in FY25, underscoring the vital role of brick-and-mortar retail in the premium bridal and occasion wear segments.
High-Profile Investor Base
Purple Style Labs has attracted a constellation of high-profile investors, adding significant star power to its roster. Among its notable backers are Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and his family, and Madhuri Dixit, alongside cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Telugu actor Mahesh Babu. Other significant investors include Akash Bhanshali, Mukul Agarwal, Binny Bansal, and Singularity, complemented by institutional investors, family offices, and private investors.
Financial Performance Overview
PSL has demonstrated remarkable growth, with its revenue surging more than eleven-fold from ₹45 crore in FY20 to ₹508 crore in FY24, representing an impressive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 83%. While revenue moderated slightly to around ₹490 crore in FY25, the company's focus on premiumization led to an increase in average order value to ₹56,106, even as customer numbers adjusted from 92,700 in FY24 to 70,650 in FY25.
Operating metrics have also shown improvement, with the EBITDA margin rising to 8.6% in FY25 from 0.6% in FY23. Sales and marketing costs have also become more efficient, declining to 6.8% of revenue from 12.9%. Despite these gains, PSL reported a pre-tax loss of ₹188.5 crore in FY25, of which ₹122.8 crore was attributed to a one-time, non-cash employee stock option charge.
Luxury Market Context and Outlook
The proposed Purple Style Labs IPO arrives at a time of robust growth in India’s wedding and luxury consumption markets. The country's wedding industry has surpassed ₹10 lakh crore, with the wedding-wear segment alone projected to reach ₹3.4 lakh crore by FY30. Furthermore, India’s personal luxury market is anticipated to expand to ₹2.31 lakh crore. Against this backdrop, PSL's IPO will allow public-market investors to evaluate its revenue growth, premiumization strategy, and improving operational efficiency as the company navigates its path toward sustainable profitability within a thriving market.
