Gurugram Biker's Ordeal: A Terrifying Encounter
Shivani Chauhan, known as Sia, a dedicated motorcyclist, has spoken out about a harrowing hit-and-run incident that left her injured and deeply shaken. The event unfolded on Gurugram's Golf Course Road when a white sedan allegedly pursued her motorcycle, ultimately ramming it before fleeing the scene. Footage of the incident, captured by an action camera on Sia's superbike, quickly circulated online, drawing widespread attention.
Sia recounted that she was on a Sunday ride when the sedan began to aggressively approach her motorcycle at high speeds. The occupants reportedly made gestures for her to stop, prompting fear and suspicion. "I was trying to stay a little ahead of them because I was scared," Sia stated, describing how the car repeatedly came dangerously close, making her fear a collision.
Despite her efforts to create distance, hoping other vehicles would separate them, the sedan allegedly continued its pursuit. As she navigated a turn, moving to the side to allow another vehicle to pass, the car reportedly accelerated, cut across her path, and struck her motorcycle before speeding away.
Trauma and Resilience: "I Will Ride Again"
Describing the incident as "extremely traumatizing and scary," particularly for women who ride motorcycles, Sia expressed her profound emotional distress. She admitted that while she intends to ride again, the experience has instilled a deep-seated fear. "I will be scared of going out alone on the road. Even going in a group will make me nervous," she confessed, specifically mentioning Gurugram and Delhi roads.
Despite this significant trauma, Sia, who has been riding for about a year and often rides alone or with her cousin, remains resolute. She highlighted the relatively small community of women bikers and her determination not to let the incident deter her passion, even if it means riding with increased caution and anxiety.
Police Action and Public Scrutiny
The case has seen significant police intervention following the public outcry and Sia's family questioning the initial response. Gurugram Police have since added an attempt-to-murder charge to the First Information Report (FIR). The accused, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, was subsequently arrested in Rajasthan.
Sia had previously voiced criticism regarding the law-and-order situation in Gurugram, suggesting that traffic enforcement often appears stricter for bikers while drivers of four-wheelers sometimes avoid penalties for similar violations. Despite the ordeal and her critiques, Sia's commitment to returning to the road underscores a powerful message of resilience in the face of adversity.
