· · 2 min read

Bank of Baroda announced a 35.8% increase in Q2 net profit, reaching Rs 6,532 crore for the September 2026 quarter. The public sector lender also saw its gross bad loans drop to 1.78% and net bad loans to 0.37%.

Bank of Baroda, a prominent public sector lender, has reported a robust financial performance for the second quarter ending September 2026. The bank's net profit surged by an impressive 35.8%, climbing to Rs 6,532 crore, up from Rs 4,809 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Strong Income Growth

The bank's net interest income (NII), which represents the difference between interest earned and interest expended, also saw a healthy increase. NII rose by 9% to Rs 13,026 crore in Q2 FY27, compared to Rs 11,954 crore recorded in Q2 FY26. This growth in core income underscores the bank's operational strength.

Further contributing to the positive results, non-interest income experienced a significant boost, rising 95.8% to Rs 6,881 crore from Rs 3,515 crore in the year-ago period. Consequently, operating profit also saw a substantial increase of 50.9%, reaching Rs 11,430 crore compared to Rs 7,576 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Improving Asset Quality

A key highlight of Bank of Baroda's Q2 earnings is the significant improvement in its asset quality. The gross Non-Performing Assets (NPA) ratio decreased to 1.78% in the September 2026 quarter, a notable reduction from 2.16% in the September 2025 quarter.

Similarly, the net NPA ratio also showed strong improvement, slipping to 0.37% in the latest quarter from 0.57% in Q2 of the previous fiscal. These figures indicate a healthier loan book and reduced risk for the bank.

Following the announcement of these positive earnings after market hours, the lender's stock closed 1.24% lower at Rs 238.50 on Friday. The bank's market capitalization stood at Rs 1.23 lakh crore.
