JioHotstar, one of India's leading online streaming platforms, has announced its significant expansion into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This strategic move aims to cater to the substantial South Asian diaspora and growing demand for diverse entertainment in countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Morocco.
Strategic Partnership with STARZPLAY
Rather than launching a standalone application, JioHotstar will integrate its extensive content catalogue as a dedicated section within the existing STARZPLAY app and website. This partnership leverages STARZPLAY's established presence and subscriber base in the MENA region, providing JioHotstar with immediate scale and reach.
Amit Malhotra, Head of International Business at JioStar, emphasized the importance of this expansion. "As we build JioHotstar into a truly global streaming platform, MENA is a crucial next market, with one of the world’s largest South Asian diaspora communities and a deep appetite for entertainment across languages," Malhotra stated. He added that the collaboration with STARZPLAY allows them to "enter the region with scale and bring audiences the breadth of JioHotstar, from new originals and daily television to blockbuster films and iconic reality franchises."
Content Offering and Subscription Plans
Viewers in the MENA region will gain access to a rich array of Indian entertainment in up to 10 languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Bangla. The content library will feature popular television shows from JioStar TV channels, a wide selection of films, and major reality franchises such as the upcoming season of Koffee with Karan and the ongoing season of Bigg Boss across six languages.
Subscribers wishing to access JioHotstar content will need to opt for one of STARZPLAY's monthly subscription plans. The 'Plus' plan, priced at AED 34.99 per month, includes JioHotstar's multilingual entertainment library. For sports enthusiasts, the 'Max' plan, available at AED 49.99 per month, offers everything from the 'Plus' plan along with STARZPLAY's sports content, notably including cricket.
This collaboration strengthens STARZPLAY's South Asian content offering while significantly broadening JioHotstar's international footprint, following previous expansions into markets like the UK, Canada, and Singapore.
