Braid, a connectivity technology company based in The Hague, has successfully closed a $38 million Series A funding round. This significant investment, led by Octopus Ventures with participation from KPN Ventures (the investment arm of Dutch telecom operator KPN), marks Braid's first external funding since its establishment in 2023.
The fresh capital is earmarked for accelerating Braid's global expansion, strengthening its partnerships with telecom carriers worldwide, and further developing its innovative embedded connectivity infrastructure.
Transforming Global Connectivity for Businesses
Braid's platform acts as a crucial technological intermediary, enabling businesses to provide mobile connectivity services under their own brand without the complex and costly process of building their own telecom networks. Through a single application programming interface (API), enterprises gain access to a vast network of over 600 carriers across more than 200 countries.
This unique approach allows companies to seamlessly integrate SIM and eSIM services directly into their existing applications and digital platforms. For instance, a travel agency could offer international eSIMs to customers booking flights, or a fintech company could include mobile data packages as part of its loyalty program.
Streamlined Service Launch
Traditionally, launching mobile connectivity services involves extensive regulatory approvals, procurement procedures, and individual negotiations with multiple carriers, a process that can take anywhere from three to six months. Braid's technology drastically cuts this timeline, allowing businesses to initiate live trials within minutes and launch fully branded connectivity services within a week.
The company currently serves nearly 90 enterprise customers, including prominent international fintech and travel firms, helping them bypass the logistical hurdles associated with global mobile connectivity.
Unlocking New Revenue Streams and Customer Engagement
Braid's embedded connectivity services open up significant new revenue opportunities for businesses while simultaneously enhancing customer engagement and retention. By bundling connectivity with core offerings, companies can create more attractive and comprehensive packages for their users.
Jignesh Dave, Founder and CEO of Braid, shared the personal experience that inspired the company's creation. He recounted spending 18 months and half a million euros just to sell his first SIM card while operating a mobile virtual network. This firsthand encounter with the industry's inefficiencies highlighted the need for a simplified solution, leading to the development of Braid's platform. Dave emphasized that embedded connectivity empowers brands to cultivate stronger customer relationships and unlock previously untapped revenue streams.
