Apple has officially launched its latest iPad mini, featuring an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, the advanced A20 Pro chip, and IP67 water and dust resistance. This compact tablet offers significant upgrades in performance, AI capabilities, and connectivity.

Apple Redefines Compact Power with New iPad mini

Cupertino, CA – October 26, 2026 – Apple today announced the next generation of its popular iPad mini, packed with substantial upgrades to its display, processing power, cameras, and connectivity. Designed for users prioritizing portability without compromising on capability, the new iPad mini aims to enhance experiences from reading and gaming to video calls and creative tasks.

Key enhancements include an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, the formidable A20 Pro chip, and support for the latest Apple Intelligence features. The device also introduces an innovative Acoustic Display system, an improved front camera for video conferencing, and a sleeker profile. With Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, an optional nano-texture display, and robust IP67 water and dust resistance, Apple expands the functionality of its smallest tablet while maintaining its signature compact form factor.

Enhanced Display and Durable Design

The new iPad mini boasts an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, a notable upgrade from its predecessor's 8.3-inch screen. Apple achieved this larger viewing area by reducing bezels by 24%, keeping the overall footprint consistent with the previous generation. The display supports the P3 wide color gamut, offers a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and reaches a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, ensuring vibrant visuals.

For comfortable reading in varied lighting conditions, the screen can dim to just one nit. An optional nano-texture finish is available to minimize glare in bright environments. Measuring a mere 5.4mm in thickness, the tablet is offered in elegant midnight and starlight finishes. Its IP67 rating confirms its ability to withstand immersion in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes under controlled conditions, though Apple advises that resistance may diminish with normal wear.

Performance and Advanced Features

Powered by A20 Pro Chip and Apple Intelligence

At the heart of the new iPad mini is Apple's A20 Pro chip, built on a cutting-edge 2-nanometre process. This powerful processor delivers up to 4.5 times faster AI performance, 2.7 times faster graphics, and 60% faster multithreaded CPU performance compared to the previous generation. It is engineered to effortlessly handle graphics-intensive games, demanding creative applications, and on-device AI workloads. The 512GB configuration features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, effectively doubling the processing power of the prior Neural Engine.

The tablet runs on iPadOS 27 and fully supports the next generation of Apple Intelligence features, including an enhanced Siri AI. Siri can now leverage personal context and on-screen information to assist users more effectively with information retrieval and task completion, with availability varying by language and region.

Cameras, Audio, and Connectivity

For video calls, the iPad mini integrates a 12-megapixel Center Stage front camera positioned along the landscape edge. The 12-megapixel rear camera supports Smart HDR 4 and 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second, complemented by an Adaptive True Tone flash for improved photos and document scanning.

Apple has also introduced an Acoustic Display system, utilizing specially designed woofers and custom tweeters to provide richer bass and clearer high frequencies. Wireless connectivity is robust, including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread via Apple's N1 networking chip. Cellular variants feature the C2 modem, eSIM support, and promise up to 50% faster cellular data speeds than the previous model.

Accessories, Pricing, and Availability

The new iPad mini supports both the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), sold separately, making it an ideal device for note-taking, sketching, and creative tasks. A new Smart Folio accessory offers adjustable viewing angles for enhanced usability.
