Indian swimmer Vedaant Madhavan, son of renowned actor R. Madhavan, did not advance to the men’s 200m freestyle final at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026. Madhavan finished 13th overall after placing sixth in his heat with a time of 1:52.01.
Meanwhile, fellow Indian swimmer Aneesh Gowda, competing in the same heat, clocked 1:51.20 to finish fourth, securing the position of first reserve for the final. The swimming events for the Asian Games are being held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre from September 20 to 25.

Prior to the Games, Vedaant Madhavan had shared his excitement on Instagram about representing India, calling it a "lifelong dream." He expressed gratitude to his family, coaches, and supporters for their role in his journey to the prestigious continental event.

Vedaant Madhavan has a strong record in national and international youth competitions, having previously won medals at events such as the Malaysian Open and Danish Open. At the 2026 Senior National Aquatic Championships, he secured three relay bronze medals and finished fourth in the 200m freestyle.
The Indian swimming team at the Asian Games 2026 is aiming to secure the country’s first swimming medal since Sandeep Sejwal's bronze in the men’s 50m breaststroke at Incheon 2014. Madhavan and Gowda's performances highlight India's continued presence and development in competitive swimming on the Asian stage.
