A significant player trade is reportedly underway in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the 2027 mini-auction, which would see star all-rounder Hardik Pandya move from Mumbai Indians (MI) to Punjab Kings (PBKS). In exchange, India's prominent left-arm fast bowler, Arshdeep Singh, is set to join Mumbai Indians.
According to reports from PTI, both franchises have reached an agreement on the swap. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) must officially ratify the deal before it is finalized. An IPL source confirmed the completion of the trade, adding that Pandya is reportedly comfortable playing under Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, who is expected to retain his leadership role.
Pandya's Second Stint with MI Concludes
This proposed move marks the end of Hardik Pandya's second tenure with the Mumbai Indians. He had rejoined the franchise before the 2024 season and took over as captain from Rohit Sharma. His captaincy, however, proved challenging, as the five-time IPL champions failed to qualify for the playoffs in the subsequent three seasons under his leadership.
Punjab Kings will be looking to leverage Pandya's all-round capabilities to strengthen their squad balance, with his contributions expected in both batting and bowling. Concerns regarding his fitness persist, as he has faced multiple injury setbacks that have kept him out of competitive cricket since the previous IPL season.
Arshdeep Singh Heads to Mumbai Indians
For Punjab Kings, parting ways with Arshdeep Singh represents a major decision. The left-arm pacer has been a long-standing and key performer for the franchise, consistently delivering strong performances in the IPL. His success in the league also cemented his place in India's international setup, where he has become one of the country's leading wicket-takers in T20 internationals.
The source indicated that while the decision was difficult for the franchise owners, it ultimately received the backing of Punjab Kings' captain and coach, despite Arshdeep's strong association and consistent contributions to the team over the years.
