Aman Sehrawat has etched his name in Indian sports history, clinching the gold medal in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling category at the Asian Games 2026. The monumental victory took place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, marking a significant milestone for Indian wrestling.
In a thrilling gold-medal bout, Sehrawat showcased exceptional skill and composure to defeat North Korea’s Chong Song Han with a decisive score of 11-7. This triumph makes him the first Indian wrestler ever to win an Asian Games gold in the fiercely contested men’s 57kg division.
Journey to Gold: Sehrawat's Dominant Campaign
Sehrawat’s path to the top of the podium was marked by a series of dominant performances. He began his campaign by overwhelming Japan’s Yamato Ogawa with a staggering 20-0 victory in the round of 16, demonstrating his intent early in the tournament.
His momentum continued into the quarterfinals, where he overcame Kazakhstan’s Nurdanat Aitanov with a comfortable 12-1 win. The semifinal proved to be his toughest challenge, as he found himself trailing Tajikistan’s Aiaal Belolyubskii 2-6 after the first period. However, Sehrawat staged a remarkable comeback, scoring 12 points in the second period to secure a 14-8 victory and a spot in the final.

This historic Asian Games gold adds another glittering achievement to Sehrawat’s rapidly growing international resume. He also secured a bronze medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
India's wrestling contingent has had a strong showing at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games. Earlier, Sujeet Kalkal also secured a gold medal in the men’s 65kg freestyle category, marking India's first wrestling gold of this edition, before Sehrawat added his own historic triumph.
