Indian golfer Pranavi Sharath Urs has etched her name in history, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. Her remarkable performance in the final round saw her finish one stroke ahead of her closest competitors, securing a landmark victory for India.
A Triumphant Final Round
Urs concluded the tournament with an impressive score of 15-under-par 265, after carding an even-par 70 in the decisive final round. The Mysore-born golfer demonstrated incredible composure, especially after facing a challenging moment with a triple bogey on the third hole, which temporarily erased her overnight lead. However, she quickly recovered, responding with three crucial birdies to regain her momentum and maintain her top position.
This individual gold is particularly significant as it marks India's first golf gold at the Asian Games since Shiv Kapur's men's individual title win in 2002.
Team India Secures Silver
Pranavi Sharath Urs's stellar individual achievement also played a pivotal role in India's success in the women's team event. Comprising Pranavi Urs, Aditi Ashok, and Diksha Dagar, the Indian trio collectively secured a silver medal. The team finished with a combined score of 14-under 546. China claimed the team gold with a score of 22-under 538.
Aditi Ashok contributed significantly to the team's standing with a final round of 67, while Diksha Dagar returned a 77. The combined efforts ensured a memorable finish for Indian women's golf at the games.
