Netflix: 'Dhurandhar' Tops Global Non-English Film Charts

· · 2 min read

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar' is the platform's most-watched non-English movie globally this year. He emphasized Indian cinema's significant global impact, with over 3.5 billion hours of Indian content streamed worldwide.

Ranveer Singh's blockbuster film, 'Dhurandhar,' has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the most-watched non-English movie globally on Netflix this year. This announcement came directly from Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, highlighting the growing international appeal of Indian content.

Global Triumph Beyond Theaters

Even after its impressive theatrical run, where the two-part franchise grossed over ₹3,100 crore worldwide, 'Dhurandhar' has continued to captivate audiences across the globe through Netflix. Sarandos lauded the film's performance during a conversation, underscoring the expanding reach of Indian storytelling.

"Dhurandhar was the most-watched non-English movie in the world this year," Sarandos stated. He further noted its exceptional performance, surpassing "every other English [movie] and second only to the US and the UK in terms of watching."

Indian Content's Consistent Global Impact

Sarandos addressed a common question he encounters regarding India's potential for a breakout global moment akin to South Korea's 'Squid Game' or Spain's 'La casa de papel' (Money Heist). He firmly believes that Indian content is already achieving such success on a regular basis.

"I hear a lot when I travel around the world, particularly in India, is like what happened with Squid Game, what happened with La casa de papel, when is India going to have that moment? And I say India has that moment all the time," Sarandos explained.

Cinema Leads the Way for Global Reach

The Netflix chief also posited that Indian cinema is currently better positioned than television to make a significant global impact, attributing this to the country's extensive and rich filmmaking tradition. He remarked that global breakthroughs are "much more likely to be in cinema" due to this "enormous, beautiful, rich, long history of movies in India."

Impressive Viewing Statistics

Sarandos highlighted broader viewing trends on Netflix, revealing that Indian films and series have consistently featured among the platform's top global titles. "We have had an Indian movie or series in the global top 10 every week since 2024," he confirmed. This consistent presence has culminated in a staggering 3.5 billion hours of Indian content being watched on Netflix around the world this year.

'Dhurandhar Part 1' premiered in theaters in December 2025 and became available on Netflix shortly before the release of its second installment in March 2026. 'Dhurandhar Part 2' is currently streaming in India on both Netflix and JioHotstar.
