· · 2 min read

Water treatment firm VA Tech Wabag's stock has surged 92% from its 52-week low, driven by a record Rs 19,400 crore order book. Axis Direct projects an 11% upside in a year, citing strong Q1FY27 performance and multi-year revenue visibility.

VA Tech Wabag, a prominent water treatment solutions provider, has seen its stock climb significantly, rising 92% from its 52-week low of Rs 1033.95 recorded on January 27, 2026. This surge comes as brokerage firm Axis Direct turns bullish on the 'multibagger' stock, projecting an 11% upside potential within a year.

Record Order Book Fuels Optimism

The company's robust performance is underpinned by a record-breaking order book, which has swelled to Rs 19,400 crore. This substantial backlog is equivalent to more than four times its annual revenue, providing strong visibility for future growth and revenue stability.

During Q1FY27, VA Tech Wabag reported impressive order inflows exceeding Rs 3,400 crore. International projects were a significant contributor, accounting for approximately 77% of these new orders. Key wins included major desalination and wastewater treatment contracts in Kuwait and the UAE, highlighting the company's expanding global footprint.

Strong Financials and Strategic Discipline

VA Tech Wabag showcased a solid financial performance for Q1FY27, with consolidated revenue increasing by 21% year-on-year to Rs 887 crore. The company also maintained a net-cash position for the 14th consecutive quarter, with net cash standing at Rs 965 crore (excluding HAM projects).

Management has reiterated its revenue growth guidance of 15-20% for FY27, signaling confidence in sustained expansion. Axis Direct notes that the company has sharpened the quality of its backlog through a disciplined bidding approach, removing approximately Rs 600 crore of non-effective framework contracts.

Asset-Light Model and Future Prospects

The company's asset-light and modular operating model continues to deliver healthy capital efficiency, with Return on Capital Employed (RoCE) at 19.6% and Return on Equity (RoE) at 16% in Q1FY27. Net working capital remained well-controlled at 108 days, within the management's target range of 100–110 days.

Beyond traditional municipal projects, VA Tech Wabag is poised to capitalize on rising demand for specialized water treatment solutions from emerging sectors such as semiconductors, solar PV, data centers, and green hydrogen. These new avenues present additional high-growth opportunities.

Investors are also keenly awaiting the unveiling of the company's “Vriddhi 2.0” strategy, expected in May 2027. This strategy is anticipated to provide further clarity on technology-led expansion, growth in higher-margin operations and maintenance businesses, and the company’s long-term cash-generation potential, further solidifying its market position.
