Reliance to Invest ₹1 Lakh Crore in Andhra Pradesh CBG Plants, Targeting 3 Lakh Jobs

· · 2 min read

Reliance Industries plans a ₹1 lakh crore investment in Andhra Pradesh to establish compressed biogas (CBG) plants. This initiative aims to generate over 3 lakh jobs and integrate the state's agricultural economy with clean energy production.

Reliance Industries has announced a significant investment of ₹1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh, aiming to establish a network of compressed biogas (CBG) plants across the state. This ambitious project is set to create over 3 lakh direct and indirect jobs and generate an estimated ₹60,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh over the coming decades.

The announcement was made by Reliance executive director Anant M Ambani during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and the Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle on October 2. Ambani highlighted the initiative as a crucial step in linking the agricultural sector with India’s broader energy transition goals.

Connecting Agriculture with Clean Energy

Ambani emphasized Reliance's vision to empower farmers, transforming them from “Anna Daatas” (food providers) into “Urja Daatas” (energy providers). He articulated a mission focused on increasing farmer prosperity, promoting cleaner energy sources, and enhancing animal welfare through sustainable practices.

The proposed CBG plants will utilize agricultural waste to produce clean fuel, thereby creating new economic opportunities in rural areas while contributing to India's energy security. This investment aligns with the Andhra Pradesh government's push for sustainable development and job creation.

Technology and Rural Development

Beyond energy production, Reliance plans to integrate advanced technology into agricultural practices. Ambani spoke about the Indian School of Agriculture's potential to merge artificial intelligence with traditional farming knowledge. This includes applications like pest detection, crop health monitoring, and precision use of water and nutrients, enhancing agricultural productivity and efficiency.

Jio, a Reliance subsidiary, will support farmer education by delivering technology-led training modules through virtual classrooms in villages, accessible in various Indian languages. This initiative aims to empower rural youth to become digitally-enabled extension workers, bridging the knowledge gap for farmers.

Broader Investment Landscape

The ₹1 lakh crore CBG investment is part of a larger economic expansion in Andhra Pradesh. Since June 2024, the state has approved 388 mega projects, collectively attracting investment commitments exceeding ₹14 lakh crore and projecting the creation of nearly 11 lakh jobs. Approximately one-third of these investments are slated for the Rayalaseema region, underscoring a significant push for regional development.
