· · 4 min read

Defence electronics manufacturer Tonbo Imaging India's IPO opens today, offering shares at Rs 665-700 apiece to raise Rs 852 crore. The issue, an offer-for-sale, runs from October 15-19, 2026, with mixed brokerage ratings.

Bengaluru-based Tonbo Imaging India, a global defence electronics OEM, has launched its initial public offering (IPO) for subscription today, October 15, 2026. The company aims to raise Rs 852 crore through an entirely offer-for-sale (OFS) issue, which will see existing promoters and shareholders offload up to 1,21,74,046 equity shares. The IPO will remain open for investors until October 19, 2026.

Tonbo Imaging IPO Details

The shares are being offered in a price band of Rs 665-700 per equity share. Investors can apply for a minimum of 21 equity shares and in multiples thereafter. Notably, since this is an OFS, Tonbo Imaging India itself will not receive any proceeds from the issue; all funds will go to the selling shareholders.

Ahead of the public issue, Tonbo Imaging successfully raised Rs 255.36 crore from 43 anchor investors, allocating 36,48,013 equity shares at Rs 700 apiece. Prominent anchor investors included SBI MF, HDFC MF, Kotak Mahindra Trustee Co, Goldman Sachs, Blackrock, and Aditya Birla MF, among others.

The company has reserved 50% of the net offer for Qualified Institutional Bidders (QIBs), 15% for Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs), and 35% for retail investors. Market observers indicate a Grey Market Premium (GMP) of Rs 490-500 per share, suggesting a potential listing gain of 70-72% for investors. JM Financial Ltd and IIFL Capital Services are the book running lead managers, with Kfin Technologies serving as the registrar. Shares are expected to list on the bourses on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Brokerage Firm Reviews

Brokerage firms have offered varied opinions on the Tonbo Imaging IPO:

  • ICICIDirect Research: Subscribe – Citing the company's strong position to benefit from increased global focus on electromagnetic systems and asymmetric warfare, which should drive significant orders. They noted that while valuations might seem fair, future visibility is promising due to multiple growth factors.
  • SBI Securities: Subscribe – Highlighted Tonbo Imaging's potential to benefit from defence indigenization and rising demand for advanced surveillance and thermal imaging systems. Despite limited revenue visibility due to long sales cycles, they recommended subscribing for a long-term investment horizon, balancing strong technological moat against earnings volatility.
  • BP Equities: Subscribe – Stated that Tonbo Imaging trades in line with domestic defence peers. They emphasized the company’s verified profitability, proprietary non-ITAR IP, confirmed order book, and alignment with India's Ministry of Defence's IDDM mandate as compelling long-term positives.
  • Sushil Finance: Neutral – Expressed caution due to the lumpy, tender-driven revenue and the fact that the issue is a pure OFS, leading to promoters holding only 15.72% post-issue. They also noted that current valuations leave little margin of safety given declining earnings.
  • Religare Broking: Neutral – Observed that Tonbo Imaging appears highly valued relative to its recent performance, with FY26 sales and net earnings declining. While acknowledging long-term growth opportunities in defence electronics, recent performance remains a concern.
  • Swastika Investmart: Neutral – Noted Tonbo's proprietary micro-optics and thermal sensors, which command high gross margins due to IP ownership. However, they pointed out that the company's return on equity trails peers and that the entire proceeds go to selling shareholders, with no capital for R&D or expansion.
