Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TPMV) has confirmed a significant price revision across its entire lineup of passenger vehicles, encompassing both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) models. The company stated that prices would increase by up to ₹25,000, with the new rates taking effect from September 1.
Reasons Behind the Price Adjustment
The automaker attributed the upcoming price hike to the necessity of partially offsetting the persistent impact of rising input costs and ongoing inflationary pressures. In an official regulatory filing, TPMV explained that while it continues to absorb a substantial portion of these increased expenses, a segment of the burden must now be passed on to consumers through this adjustment. The precise extent of the price increase will vary depending on specific models and variants.
Second Hike This Quarter Amid Broader Industry Trends
This marks the second instance of Tata Motors increasing its vehicle prices within the same quarter. Previously, the company had implemented a price adjustment of up to 1.5 percent, which became effective on July 1. The decision aligns with broader trends observed in the Indian automotive market, as other manufacturers also grapple with similar economic challenges. Hyundai Motor India, for example, also recently announced plans to raise prices across its portfolio by up to 1 percent from September, citing similar reasons such as escalating input and commodity costs, alongside global geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties.
Automakers frequently cite the need to maintain the overall value proposition of their offerings while navigating a challenging economic environment characterized by fluctuating raw material costs and supply chain disruptions.
