The Mumbai-based NSE, incorporated in 1992, stands as India's largest stock exchange and a prominent global multi-asset exchange platform. The IPO, which commenced on Thursday, September 17, aims to raise Rs 22,568 crore. Shares are being offered in a price band of Rs 1,700-1,785 apiece, with a minimum lot size of eight shares.
Investor Categories Show Robust Demand
Subscription data indicated significant demand across various investor segments:
- Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs): Their allocation was subscribed 1.35 times.
- Qualified Institutional Bidders (QIBs): This portion saw a subscription rate of 1.32 times.
- Employee Quota: Employees booked their reserved shares 1.36 percent.
- Retail Investors: The retail portion was subscribed 65 percent by the close of the second day.
The IPO is an entirely an offer-for-sale, involving up to 12.64 crore equity shares sold by existing shareholders. Ahead of the public offer, NSE successfully raised over Rs 6,746 crore from 189 anchor investors, allocating 3,77,93,739 equity shares at Rs 1,785 apiece.

Numerous brokerage firms have issued 'Subscribe' ratings for the NSE IPO, viewing it as a strategic proxy for India's broader economic growth. Analysts highlight NSE's dominant market position, robust competitive advantages, strong cash flows, debt-free balance sheet, and a diversified product portfolio.
GEPL Capital commented that NSE is well-positioned to capitalize on the structural financialization of Indian savings. They noted that the business offers significant operating leverage, allowing incremental trading volumes to be handled with relatively low marginal costs, thereby supporting potential margin and earnings expansion.
Way2Wealth Research assigned a 'subscribe-for-long-term' rating, describing the IPO as an exceptional business opportunity and one of India's finest large-cap offerings in years. Karma Capital also echoed positive sentiments, emphasizing NSE's role as a structural growth story underpinned by the continued evolution of India's capital markets.
For the three months ended June 30, 2026, NSE reported a net profit of Rs 3,210.08 crore on revenue of Rs 5,252.17 crore. For the full fiscal year 2025-26, the exchange posted a net profit of Rs 10,302.06 crore on revenue of Rs 18,713.37 crore.
Market observers noted a grey market premium (GMP) of approximately Rs 145-150 for NSE shares, suggesting potential listing gains of 8-9 percent for investors. The shares are scheduled to list exclusively on BSE Ltd on Thursday, September 24.
