IDFC First Bank stock experienced a significant drop of nearly 4% in early trading on Monday, settling at Rs 69.52 from its previous close of Rs 72.35. This decline occurred despite the bank announcing robust Q2 earnings that met market expectations. The bank's market capitalization also fell to Rs 61,549 crore.

The IDFC First Bank stock has been on a downward trend, shedding over 10% in two weeks and 15% in the last month. Furthermore, the shares are trading below all key simple moving averages, including 5-day, 10-day, 20-day, 30-day, 50-day, 100-day, 150-day, and 200-day SMAs.

Strong Q2 FY27 Earnings Report

Despite the stock's recent performance, IDFC First Bank delivered impressive Q2 FY27 results. The lender reported a substantial 197% year-on-year increase in net profit, reaching Rs 1,045 crore compared to Rs 352 crore in Q2 FY26. Net interest income (NII) also saw a healthy rise of approximately 21%, growing to Rs 6,184 crore from Rs 5,113 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

The bank's operating profit climbed 35% to Rs 2,539 crore in Q2 FY27, up from Rs 1,880 crore in Q2 FY26. Provisions for the quarter stood at Rs 1,137 crore, a marginal sequential decline of 0.6% from Rs 1,144 crore in Q1 FY27.

Brokerage Outlook and Price Targets

Brokerage firms have weighed in on IDFC First Bank's future prospects following the earnings report:

  • Emkay Global noted an improvement in Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) to 1.3% and maintained contingency provisions of Rs 515 crore. The brokerage firm expects the bank to achieve a Return on Assets (ROA) of 0.9-1.2% over FY27-29E and reiterated an 'ADD' rating with a target price of Rs 85.
  • Axis Securities adjusted its price target for IDFC First Bank from Rs 95 to Rs 91. They anticipate margins to recover from Q4 onwards as excess liquidity eases and the benefits of repo rate hikes are reflected in repo-linked loans. Management guidance suggests Net Interest Margins (NIMs) could improve to 5.8% by FY27-end and remain stable through FY28.
  • Nuvama Institutional Equities maintained a 'BUY' rating with a target price of Rs 95. While trimming FY28E/29E earnings estimates slightly due to factors like insurance commission capping, Nuvama foresees a steady improvement in RoA/RoE to 1.1–1.3% and 9–15% respectively over FY27–29E.

The mixed signals from a strong earnings report and an oversold stock position leave investors closely watching for a potential rebound in IDFC First Bank shares.
