Four New Namo Bharat Routes Proposed to Boost Western UP Connectivity, Cut Travel Times

· · 3 min read

Following the operational Delhi-Meerut corridor, NCRTC has proposed four new Namo Bharat routes, designating Ghaziabad as a key interchange hub. These corridors aim to significantly reduce travel times and enhance connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh for industrial, trade, and educational centers.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is advancing plans for four new Namo Bharat rapid rail corridors, significantly expanding high-speed connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh. This initiative builds on the successful launch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, which has already reduced travel times between Delhi and Meerut to approximately 50-55 minutes.

The proposed routes are designed to transform Ghaziabad into a major interchange hub, linking it to vital industrial, trading, and educational centers. These new corridors are expected to dramatically cut travel times and foster regional economic growth.

Key Proposed Namo Bharat Corridors

Ghaziabad–Jewar Airport Corridor

  • Length: Approximately 72 km.
  • Route: From Ghaziabad RRTS station to Jewar Airport, passing through Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.
  • Status: NCRTC has already submitted its Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this priority route.
  • Benefit: Will allow passengers from Delhi and Meerut to transfer at Ghaziabad for direct high-speed access to Jewar Airport.

Delhi–Shahdara–Shamli–Baraut Corridor

  • Length: Estimated 55-60 km.
  • Route: Connecting Delhi (Shahdara, Anand Vihar) through Loni (Ghaziabad), Khekra, Baraut (Baghpat), and extending to Shamli.
  • Benefit: Provides direct high-speed connectivity to Delhi for areas in Baghpat and Shamli, reducing travel time from the current two hours to 30-40 minutes. This will particularly benefit students and those involved in the sugar mill, grain trade, and educational sectors.

Ghaziabad–Bulandshahr–Khurja Corridor

  • Length: Approximately 65-70 km.
  • Route: Linking Ghaziabad RRTS station with Lalkuan, Dadri, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr, and Khurja.
  • Benefit: Extends high-speed rail to currently unconnected parts of western Uttar Pradesh, enhancing logistics and manufacturing capabilities for areas known for ceramic industries (Khurja) and major industrial parks (Sikandrabad, Dadri).

Ghaziabad–Pilkhua–Hapur Corridor

  • Length: Roughly 30-35 km.
  • Route: Connecting Ghaziabad rapid rail station to Dasna, Pilkhua, and Hapur.
  • Benefit: Eases traffic on NH-9 and supports the development of new urban centers around Hapur and Pilkhua. It will benefit thousands of students and businesspersons from Pilkhua's handloom, textile, engineering, and medical college sectors.

Ghaziabad: A Central Interchange Hub

The Ghaziabad RRTS station is set to become a critical interchange point, enabling seamless transfers between the Delhi-Meerut corridor and the new proposed routes to Jewar Airport, Hapur, Khurja, and Baraut. This strategic development will also facilitate connections to other planned corridors such as Delhi-Panipat-Karnal and Delhi-Alwar, further integrating the Delhi-NCR region.

Future Expansion

Beyond these immediate proposals, there is also a plan to extend the existing Delhi-Meerut corridor further from Modipuram (Meerut) to Haridwar and Rishikesh via Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee. If realized, this extension would provide direct high-speed rail access from Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh to the significant pilgrimage and tourist destinations in Uttarakhand.

These ambitious projects underscore a broader strategy to expand high-speed public transport, strengthen economic links, and improve daily commutes across one of India's most populous and rapidly developing regions.
