Emmvee Photovoltaic Power is embarking on a significant ₹5,500 crore (approximately $660 million USD) expansion of its integrated solar manufacturing capabilities in India. This substantial investment aims to bolster the nation's domestic production of solar energy components, reducing reliance on imports and supporting India's ambitious renewable energy targets.
Major Capacity Boost Planned
The company's expansion plan is multi-phased and ambitious. By December 2026, Emmvee targets the commissioning of a new 6 GW (gigawatt) solar module plant. Following this, an additional 6 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity is slated to come online by March 2027.
If these targets are met, Emmvee's annual module capacity would reach an impressive 16.3 GW, while its cell capacity would increase to 8.9 GW. This scaling up is crucial as India's solar power capacity has seen massive growth, expanding over 53-fold since 2014 to reach 150.26 GW by March 2026.
Strengthening India's Solar Supply Chain
India's push for renewable energy is not just about installing solar projects but also about developing a robust domestic manufacturing base for the entire supply chain. While module assembly capacity has grown significantly, the country still largely depends on imported solar cells, wafers, and polysilicon.
Emmvee's planned increase in cell capacity directly addresses this gap, aiming to reduce India's vulnerability to overseas supply disruptions. The government's Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework also encourages domestic production across the value chain, including for cells and future plans for wafers.
Emmvee's Operational and Financial Health
The expansion comes as Emmvee demonstrates strong operational performance. By the end of Q2 FY27, the company reported an order book of 10.4 GW, with approximately 70% linked to domestic content requirements. Existing cell manufacturing operated at an 89% effective utilization rate in Q2 FY27, while module production was at 44%.
Financially, Emmvee has shown robust growth. For the first half of FY27, revenue from operations surged 45.1% year-on-year to ₹3,131.9 crore. EBITDA increased 47.4% to ₹1,105 crore, and profit after tax jumped 79.1% to ₹762.3 crore, underscoring the company's strong position to undertake this expansion.
Future Plans for Deeper Integration
Looking ahead, Emmvee is also planning a phased entry into ingot and wafer manufacturing, the foundational stages of solar component production. This proposed 9 GW capacity, split between 5 GW in FY29 and 4 GW in FY30, would require an additional capital expenditure of ₹5,000 crore to ₹5,500 crore. This further integration is contingent on regulatory clarity regarding ALMM III implementation and favorable market conditions.
These investments highlight a broader national goal: for Indian manufacturers to move beyond merely assembling modules to creating a fully integrated, self-sufficient solar supply chain. For Emmvee, the immediate challenge lies in the timely execution and efficient operation of its ambitious new facilities.
