Leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin has extended its significant gains, crossing the $80,000 threshold for the first time since May 2026. On Tuesday, August 25, Bitcoin prices jumped over 4.85 percent to hit $81,235, culminating in a more than 25 percent increase over the past week.
What's Fueling the Bitcoin Price Surge?
The recent rally reflects a renewed improvement in market sentiment, significantly bolstered by evolving macroeconomic conditions and growing optimism surrounding crypto-friendly policies. A push from the White House for a more supportive crypto policy has reportedly triggered a wave of short liquidations, adding substantial momentum to Bitcoin's sharp upward movement.
Experts point to several key drivers for this week's surge. Macroeconomic movements, easing bond yields, and a significant short squeeze played pivotal roles. SB Seker, Head of APAC at Binance, highlighted growing regulatory clarity conversations in the US, steady ETF infrastructure, and a maturing market's ability to absorb volatility as contributing factors. However, Seker cautioned that sustainable adoption is built beyond single rallies.
Expert Insights and Market Outlook
Vikas Gupta, Country Manager – India at Bybit, acknowledged the encouraging breakout above $80,000 but warned that sharp price movements can also lead to elevated volatility and short-term profit-taking. He advised investors to consider their risk appetite, position sizing, and investment horizon before making decisions.
Ashish Singhal, Co-Founder at CoinSwitch, noted that Bitcoin ETF inflows indicate a return of traditional investors as macroeconomic conditions become more supportive. He suggested that the next phase of momentum would heavily depend on inflation data and the Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook. If yields continue to soften, Bitcoin could maintain its upward trajectory, though some profit-taking is expected after this rebound.
Rajagopal Menon, Vice President at WazirX, added that stable or lower long-term yields, coupled with continued investment in technology and innovation, could further support risk appetite for digital assets. He observed that market participation is broadening again, and the focus now shifts to whether this improving sentiment can develop into sustained conviction.
