Shares of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) experienced a 2.34% decline on Thursday, closing at Rs 1,293 apiece, despite the company reporting a remarkable 147.73% year-on-year surge in its net profit for the September quarter. The energy solutions provider announced a net profit of Rs 1,322.85 crore, a significant jump from Rs 533.97 crore recorded in the same period last year.
The primary driver behind this impressive profit growth was substantial tax gains amounting to Rs 1,274.25 crore during the quarter, contrasting with a tax outgo of Rs 187.44 crore in the previous year. This tax benefit helped AESL surpass Bloomberg's consensus net profit estimate of Rs 1,082 crore.
Strong Operational Performance and Revenue Growth
Beyond the tax-driven profit surge, Adani Energy Solutions also showcased robust operational performance. Revenue from operations grew by 52.76% year-on-year, reaching Rs 10,075.54 crore, up from Rs 6,595.80 crore. This growth was bolstered by strong operating performance across its portfolio, the energy solutions platform, and the ongoing smart meter rollout, alongside higher Service Concession Arrangement (SCA) income reflecting increased capital expenditure execution. The company's EBITDA also saw a 67% increase, hitting a record Rs 3,548 crore.
“AESL closed the first half of the fiscal year with strong financial and operational momentum, laying a robust foundation for future growth. We significantly expanded our growth pipeline by winning the strategic Vizag and Satara transmission assets, elevating our active order book to ~Rs 87,000 crore,” stated CEO Kandarp Patel.
Patel highlighted that the Mumbai distribution business recorded an 11% growth in MUs sold, while the smart metering platform expanded its installation base to 15 million meters. Furthermore, a significant 2.5 GW RTC power supply contract with MSEDCL reinforced AESL’s capabilities in multi-source energy aggregation and power supply optimization.
Strategic Acquisitions and Fundraising
During the quarter, Adani Energy Solutions advanced its strategic growth initiatives. The company executed a binding securities purchase and subscription agreement to acquire a 100% equity stake in IntelliSmart Infrastructure Private Limited. This acquisition, valued at Rs 3,050 crore and subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to solidify AESL's position as India's largest smart metering platform, with a projected portfolio of over 4.7 crore smart meters.
Additionally, AESL successfully completed a Rs 3,500 crore qualified institutional placement (QIP). The management committee approved the allotment of 2,16,71,826 equity shares of face value Rs 10 each to eligible investors at a price of Rs 1,615 per equity share.
