The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather alert, forecasting significant rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across more than 25 states and Union Territories nationwide. This active southwest monsoon period, aided by a likely low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to continue through August 12, with particularly intense conditions anticipated until August 8.

Odisha is projected to experience the most severe weather, with the IMD predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, including isolated incidents of extremely heavy downpours, on August 7 and 8. Other regions under a very heavy rainfall watch during various days of the forecast include East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and South Interior Karnataka. The widespread alert covers areas across northwest, central, eastern, western, and southern India.
The weather department also warns of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph in several states. Fishermen have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into specific parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal due to squally weather and rough sea conditions.
