The owner of a car allegedly involved in a collision with a woman biker on Gurugram's Golf Course Road has stated he was not behind the wheel during the incident. Manish, the car owner, claims his vehicle was borrowed by a friend two days prior to the crash that left biker Sia injured.
Gurugram Biker Reports Aggressive Chase and Collision
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involved Sia riding her Aprilia RS 457 motorcycle with members of her biking group. According to Sia, a white sedan, occupied by men she believed to be intoxicated, began aggressively chasing her from the start of the ride. She recounted how the car repeatedly approached her dangerously, and when she urged the driver to maintain distance, she was instructed to stop her motorcycle.
Sia attempted to stay ahead to avoid being cut off, while a fellow rider positioned his bike between her and the sedan in an attempt to protect her. Despite these efforts, Sia alleges the sedan suddenly swerved and struck her motorcycle from the side, causing her to be thrown onto the road and her bike to skid. The car then fled the scene.
Viral Video and Owner's Statement
Footage of the incident, captured by an action camera mounted on Sia's motorcycle, quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention to the dangerous driving. Sia, who suffered severe injuries, was admitted to a nearby hospital following the crash.
Responding to the allegations and the public outcry, car owner Manish spoke to ANI, asserting his innocence. "It is my vehicle. I was at work; a friend had borrowed my car," Manish stated. He identified the friend as Kalyan Singh from Palwal district, Haryana, adding, "He took it two days ago. I found out about the accident this morning [Monday]. I called him, but he didn't pick up." Manish also mentioned sending his father to Kalyan Singh's residence.
Police Investigation Underway
A second video, recorded by Sia's fellow rider, shows him pursuing the sedan and confronting its driver at a traffic signal. The driver reportedly denied responsibility before driving away. Sia later shared the footage on her Instagram page, 'rebelwheels_sia_', expressing concerns about road safety in Gurugram and urging police action against reckless drivers who flee accident scenes. She also identified the vehicle's registration number and registered owner in her post.
The videos prompted numerous social media users to tag various police departments, including Delhi Police, Gurugram Police, Gurugram Traffic Police, and Haryana Police, demanding an investigation. Gurugram Traffic Police have since launched an investigation based on the visual evidence, with Manish's statement adding a new dimension to the ongoing inquiry.
