· · 2 min read

The satirical online political movement, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has returned to X (formerly Twitter) after its account was temporarily withheld in India. The CJP, known for its unique manifesto, has seen a surge in online popularity, surpassing major political parties in follower counts.

The satirical online political movement known as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has made a swift comeback on X (formerly Twitter), just hours after its original account was withheld in India. The movement, which blends humor with serious political commentary, quickly gained traction, with its new handle, @Cockroachisback, announcing its return with the defiant message, "You thought you can get rid of us? Lol!"

Rapid Rise in Online Popularity

The CJP's resurgence comes amidst a significant surge in its online popularity. Reports indicate that the party's social media presence has grown exponentially, even surpassing the official Instagram account of a major national political party in follower count. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke confirmed the withholding of the original account, stating it was an "expected" development given the widespread discussions and trending status of the satirical movement.

Dipke also alleged that attempts were made to hack his Instagram account, suggesting a coordinated effort against the online group. The CJP claims its original handle was blocked shortly after it outperformed established political entities on Instagram within a mere four days.

A Manifesto of Satire and Serious Demands

Despite its humorous name, the Cockroach Janta Party's manifesto outlines several significant demands, fusing satire with calls for systemic change. Key proposals include:

  • A ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha positions for Chief Justices.
  • Enhanced accountability for the Election Commission.
  • A 50 percent reservation for women in Parliament and Cabinet roles.
  • Reforms in media ownership and employment rights.

Addressing Current National Issues

The CJP has also actively weighed in on pressing national issues. Following the NEET-UG paper leak controversy, the party demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, emphasizing the severe impact on students. "Education Minister of India must resign! Students are committing suicide because of the NEET paper leak. Cockroaches, take this forward. We need to fix the accountability," a CJP social media post declared.

Furthermore, the CJP voiced strong support for students affected by the controversy, advocating for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to immediately scrap rechecking fees.
