Amit Malviya Out as BJP IT Head; CEO Hints at Key West Bengal Role After Big Win

· · 2 min read

Amit Malviya has been replaced as the BJP's IT Cell head after 11 years. Tax Compass CEO Ajay Rotti suggests Malviya's political relevance continues, hinting at a new role following the BJP's substantial victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election.

Amit Malviya has stepped down from his position as the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s social media department, a role he held for 11 years. While the move marks a significant change, Tax Compass founder and CEO Ajay Rotti suggests this is far from the end of Malviya's political career, hinting at a potentially elevated role following the BJP's recent electoral success in West Bengal.

Rotti, who has previously voiced criticism of Malviya, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that it would be premature to write off Malviya's political future. He emphasized that Malviya's removal from the IT cell does not signify an end to his influence, especially given the BJP's remarkable performance in West Bengal, where Malviya serves as co-incharge.

Malviya's Crucial Role in West Bengal

Malviya was appointed as the BJP's West Bengal co-incharge in November 2020, ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections. Alongside state in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya and co-in-charge Arvind Menon, Malviya played a part in the party's strategic efforts in the state. The BJP saw a substantial increase in its seat tally in the 2021 Assembly election, rising from just three seats in 2016 to 77.

The party's momentum culminated in the 2026 Assembly election, where the BJP achieved a decisive victory over Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, securing 208 out of the 294 seats. This significant win has fueled speculation about Malviya's potential for a new, more prominent assignment within the party structure.

New Leadership for BJP's Social Media

On Monday, the BJP announced the appointment of academic Deepak Mhaskey as the new head of its social media department. Malviya offered his congratulations to Mhaskey and the other newly appointed office-bearers, expressing confidence in their ability to further the party's digital outreach across the country.

"Their appointments come at a crucial juncture as the party prepares to scale newer heights and take its message and organisation to every corner of the country," Malviya stated, adding, "I wish to particularly congratulate Shri Deepak Mhaskey ji, who will be taking over from me as the head of the BJP's Social Media Department..."

Malviya, who became prominent in 2009 through the 'Friends of BJP' forum before being made IT department head in 2015, affirmed that he had worked closely with the new team for a decade and was confident they would achieve "newer milestones" in digital communication.
