Samsung has commenced the official global rollout of One UI 9, its latest software interface built on Android 17, bringing a suite of new Galaxy AI features and significant software enhancements to a wider range of its devices.
The update began its phased deployment on Wednesday, September 16, initially reaching the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra models. Earlier, the software had already been made available to Samsung's newest foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8. One UI 9 aims to make Galaxy devices more personalized, useful, and secure, with a strong emphasis on AI-powered tools for various daily tasks.
Advanced AI Features Enhance User Experience
One UI 9 introduces several innovative AI-driven functionalities designed to streamline content creation and daily interactions:
- My FanCam: This feature automatically tracks a chosen individual within a recorded video, keeping them centered in the frame as the scene unfolds. This helps users create professional-looking, social-ready videos with minimal manual editing.
- Now Brief: The updated daily summary tool now includes Generative and Editable Cards, allowing users to customize briefings across categories such as health, weather, and video content.
- Now Nudge: Provides context-aware suggestions, offering helpful prompts during routine tasks.
- Creative Studio: Can generate image creation ideas, intelligently leveraging information about upcoming events.
- Interpreter: Gains a new Thread View, making it easier for users to follow translated conversations in real-time.
- Document Scan: Enhanced capabilities allow it to accurately scan curved book pages and documents with folded corners.
- Voice Recorder: Now processes recordings to present concise summaries, organized with headings and tables for quick review.
Enhanced Security and Device Management
Beyond productivity, One UI 9 also brings robust security upgrades and improved device support:
- Security Brief: Integrates alerts within Now Brief for potential threats like malware, apps from unknown sources, and unnecessary permission requests.
- Privacy Alerts: Utilizes on-device AI to detect potential privacy risks, such as unauthorized attempts to access permissions in the background.
- Scam Detection: This crucial security feature is being expanded to more countries and languages, with India specifically included in the wider rollout.
Streamlined Device Support with Warranty and Care
Samsung has integrated a new "Warranty and Care" feature directly into the device Settings. This allows users to conveniently check their warranty coverage, run self-diagnostics, view repair estimates, manage their Samsung Care+ plans, and even book service appointments without leaving the settings menu.
While the initial wider rollout targets the Galaxy S26 series and the aforementioned foldables, Samsung has confirmed that the One UI 9 update will progressively expand to its other compatible Galaxy devices in the coming weeks and months.
