Anthropic has announced that its advanced Claude AI models are now available with in-country inference capabilities in India through Amazon Bedrock. This strategic move addresses a long-standing demand from Indian organizations, particularly those operating in regulated sectors, to keep their sensitive data processing within national borders.
The newly available models under this setup include Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5, and Claude Haiku 4.5. By routing requests through an India-specific endpoint, all AI processing now occurs on servers located within the country, ensuring adherence to strict data residency and regulatory standards.
Meeting India's Data Residency Needs
India represents one of Claude's largest global markets, boasting a highly technically advanced developer community. The demand for local inference has been particularly strong from financial institutions, government bodies, and large enterprises that handle sensitive information and operate under stringent data-handling regulations. This new capability is designed to help these organizations transition their AI workloads from pilot programs to full production, confident in their compliance.
Deployments of Claude through Amazon Bedrock also provide essential enterprise controls, including robust audit trails and comprehensive access controls, which are vital for risk and compliance teams.
Early Adopters and Expanding Ecosystem
Several prominent Indian entities participated in the private preview of this capability, including Reliance and CRED. These early customers highlighted significant benefits such as lower latency, improved performance, enhanced resilience, and the crucial ability to maintain data within Indian borders.
Other major organizations like TCS, Kotak Bank, Mahindra Group, NPCI, Data Security Council of India (DSCI), Godrej Industries, Freshworks, Swiggy, and Invideo have also emphasized the importance of local processing, strong governance, security, and performance. Notably, NPCI is leveraging Claude to develop its AiNxt agentic AI platform, while DSCI utilizes Claude-powered agents for code, infrastructure, and security reviews.
Anthropic's Deepening Investment in India
This initiative follows Anthropic's earlier commitment in August to bring Claude inference to India, signifying a longer-term investment in the market. The company established its Bengaluru office in February and has since expanded its local team and partnerships. India has also recorded some of the highest registrations for the Claude Partner Network, with numerous Indian companies now featured across its Global Premier, Preferred, and Select tiers.
Anthropic's first Claude Certification for Partners event in Bengaluru successfully certified up to 5,000 individuals, further solidifying its ecosystem within the country. Claude is already in use by major banks such as Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, and IndusInd Bank, as well as leading IT services firms like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, LTM, and LTTS. Its applications extend to diverse sectors, including e-commerce (Zomato, Swiggy), fintech (Razorpay), and various research and public-interest projects.
