Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav is poised to make his much-anticipated return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) lineup. The young speedster is expected to feature in LSG's upcoming high-octane clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Yadav's Readiness Confirmed
LSG's Global Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, provided an update on Yadav's status, clarifying that his previous absence was not a fitness issue but rather a matter of building match readiness. "Mayank is ready to go," Moody stated. "He didn’t come into our thinking early in the tournament because he was still a little underdone. Not from a fitness point of view, his fitness was good, but in terms of bowling loads and feeling comfortable. We feel he is now at that point. He has worked exceptionally hard."
Yadav was seen doing spot bowling at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium the day before the match, followed by a lengthy discussion with bowling coach B. Arun, indicating his preparation for a comeback.
Selection Dilemma for LSG
While Yadav's return is a significant boost, it presents a selection challenge for the LSG management. Their bowling unit has performed commendably despite the team's struggles with consistent run-scoring. Moody acknowledged this, adding, "Our bowling has been pretty solid so far. We just haven’t produced the runs to support that."
Should Mayank Yadav be included in the playing XI, it could potentially be at the expense of fellow pacer Avesh Khan, who is also returning from injury. Avesh had undertaken preparatory stints to build his workload ahead of the IPL season. Although he has been somewhat expensive in recent outings, conceding over 10 runs per over, his experience remains valuable to the squad.
Pace Battery Nearing Full Strength
Moody also confirmed that LSG's pace attack is nearing full strength, with Mohsin Khan also close to making a return. "The likes of Mayank, Mohsin and Avesh have all had long-term injuries. Our medical team has worked exceptionally hard to get them ready. They’re all available now. Mohsin will probably have a final test on match day," Moody explained.
As LSG prepares to face an in-form RCB on a batting-friendly pitch, the potential return of Mayank Yadav is anticipated to add significant pace, excitement, and a fresh dynamic to their campaign.
