Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been named head coach of the Delhi Capitals for the 2027 Indian Premier League season. He replaces Hemang Badani and brings extensive prior experience with the franchise as an adviser and director of cricket.

New Delhi, India – The Delhi Capitals have officially announced the appointment of former India captain Sourav Ganguly as their head coach for the upcoming 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The franchise confirmed the news on Tuesday, October 6, marking Ganguly's return to a central leadership role within the team.

Ganguly steps into the position previously held by Hemang Badani, who served as head coach for the past two seasons. This appointment deepens Ganguly's long-standing association with the Delhi Capitals, having previously contributed to the team as an adviser and director of cricket since 2019, engaging with both men's and women's squads in various capacities.

"I am looking forward to taking on the role of head coach in the IPL. Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart and one that I have shared a strong relationship with over the years," Ganguly stated, expressing his enthusiasm for the new challenge. He added that his prior experience with the franchise would be invaluable in working effectively with players and staff.

Parth Jindal, chairman and co-owner of Delhi Capitals, warmly welcomed Ganguly's appointment. "Dada is and has always been an integral part of the Delhi Capitals family. I am incredibly proud and honoured to announce that one of the greatest Indian captains and administrators is now stepping into coaching by taking over as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals," Jindal commented, highlighting Ganguly's significance to the team's journey.

The Delhi Capitals, who are yet to secure an IPL title since the tournament's inception in 2008, are hopeful that Ganguly's renowned leadership and aggressive cricketing philosophy will inspire a stronger performance in IPL 2027. The franchise's official social media channels echoed this sentiment, proclaiming, "Dilli, it's time for Dadagiri 🐅 Sourav Ganguly, Head Coach of the Tigers 🔥"

New Era for Delhi Capitals

The upcoming season signifies a significant reset for the Delhi Capitals. Alongside Ganguly's strategic leadership, the team anticipates the return of former captain Rishabh Pant to the squad after his stint with Lucknow Super Giants. This combination of Pant's comeback and Ganguly's appointment creates a compelling leadership narrative for the franchise heading into the new season.

While not yet officially confirmed by the franchise, reports suggest that former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is also expected to join the coaching setup as batting coach, further bolstering the team's ambitions for a maiden IPL trophy.
