CSK Complains to BCCI Over 'Dosa Idly' Track & Remarks at RCB Match

· · 3 min read

Chennai Super Kings have lodged a formal complaint with the BCCI regarding a controversial "Dosa Idly" song and accompanying remarks played during their IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The franchise alleges the stadium atmosphere crossed the line of sporting banter.

The rivalry between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has taken an unexpected turn off the field, with CSK formally complaining to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the atmosphere at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during their recent IPL 2026 fixture.

The specific incident in question involves the playing of the track "Dosa, Idly, Sambar, Chutney" along with various comments and meme-style references over the stadium's sound system during the April 5 match. CSK's management felt these actions went beyond acceptable sporting banter, prompting them to raise their concerns with the league's governing body.

BCCI Confirms Receipt of Complaint

A senior IPL official has confirmed that the complaint from Chennai Super Kings has been received and is currently under review by the league's governing council. "We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it," the official stated, indicating the seriousness with which the matter is being treated.

CSK Managing Director Voices Concerns

Kasi Viswanathan, Managing Director for Chennai Super Kings, articulated the team's discomfort with the situation. He noted that while stadium DJs typically aim to energize home support, the environment at the Chinnaswamy Stadium felt distinctly different on this occasion.

"The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it," Viswanathan explained.

Previous Incidents and Intensifying Rivalry

This isn't the first time the "Dosa, Idly, Sambar, Chutney" track has caused a stir, having gained notoriety in a previous IPL season due to its association with meme culture and South Indian stereotypes. It also surfaced around an earlier flashpoint involving CSK and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma. Following that episode, CSK management reportedly implemented internal guidelines to ensure DJs at their home ground, Chepauk, avoided targeting opposition players or supporters.

The match itself saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru secure a convincing 43-run victory. Batting first, RCB posted a formidable 250/3 in 20 overs, with Tim David smashing an unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls, supported by contributions from Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, and Phil Salt. In response, CSK was bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs, despite fighting knocks from Sarfaraz Khan, Prashant Veer, and Jamie Overton.

This latest off-field development underscores the escalating intensity of the CSK-RCB rivalry, which frequently extends beyond the boundary ropes into fan culture, social media, and the overall stadium experience.
