The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has given its crucial nod to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Delhi-Jewar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. This significant approval, announced on May 22, 2026, paves the way for a high-speed rail link designed to drastically cut travel time between the national capital and the new Noida International Airport at Jewar to an estimated 21 minutes.
Next Steps for the High-Speed Corridor
Following state cabinet clearance, the DPR has now been forwarded to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for final approval from the central government. If greenlit, the Delhi-Jewar RRTS corridor is set to become a vital addition to the National Capital Region's rapidly expanding transport infrastructure network.
The proposed corridor is envisioned to operate similarly to the successful 'Namo Bharat' rapid rail system, which currently connects Delhi with Meerut. These modern RRTS trains are engineered for top speeds of up to 180 kilometers per hour and are expected to operate at a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour, ensuring swift and efficient transit.
Integrated Connectivity for Noida International Airport
A key feature of the Delhi-Jewar RRTS project is its proposed integration with the upcoming Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail line. The DPR suggests a dedicated station at the Noida International Airport terminal, creating a seamless multi-modal transport hub that links air travel with high-speed rail infrastructure.
This development comes as Noida International Airport prepares for its inaugural flight operations, anticipated to commence on June 15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously inaugurated the airport project on March 28 earlier this year, highlighting its importance as a major aviation and logistics center for North India.
Boosting Regional Development and Infrastructure
Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' recently chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall and planned development of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. Special emphasis was placed on accelerating infrastructural projects directly linked to Jewar Airport, recognizing the critical need for efficient connectivity for both passengers and businesses.
Minister Gupta instructed officials to address and remove any legal and administrative bottlenecks hindering development works. Directives were also issued to enhance transparency and simplify compensation mechanisms and No Objection Certificate (NOC) procedures for local residents and farmers, ensuring smoother project execution.
The Yamuna Expressway region is projected to experience significant industrial expansion once the airport becomes operational. Government plans include integrating the area with major transport arteries such as the Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, Ganga, Delhi-Mumbai, and Purvanchal Expressways, transforming it into a robust logistics and industrial growth hub.
