Toxic Box Office Decline: Yash's Film Fades as Hanuman Ansh Nears ₹150 Crore

· · 3 min read

Yash's action drama 'Toxic' sees a sharp decline after a massive opening, collecting ₹0.69 crore on Day 14. Meanwhile, the devotional film 'Hanuman Ansh' continues its surprising surge, nearing the ₹150 crore mark in India.

As of early September 2026, the Indian box office is showcasing a tale of two contrasting cinematic journeys: Yash's high-octane action drama Toxic and the sleeper devotional hit Hanuman Ansh. While Toxic began with a record-breaking opening, it has experienced a significant downturn in daily collections. In stark contrast, Hanuman Ansh, after a modest start, has built remarkable momentum, steadily climbing towards a major milestone.

Toxic's Rapid Descent After Blockbuster Opening

Yash's highly anticipated film, Toxic, made a spectacular debut, grossing an impressive ₹120.75 crore on its opening day (August 26). This initial surge saw it cross the ₹100 crore single-day mark, drawing comparisons to the scale of KGF: Chapter 2. In its extended first week, the film accumulated an India gross of approximately ₹280.25 crore and a net of ₹234.70 crore, pushing its worldwide total to roughly ₹322 crore.

However, the film's trajectory quickly shifted. Reports indicate daily drops as high as 67% post-opening, raising concerns about its long-term sustainability. By Day 14 (September 9, 2026), Toxic added only ₹0.69 crore net in India, bringing its total India net collection to about ₹247.2 crore. Its overall India gross reached ₹295.02 crore, with an additional ₹43.30 crore from overseas markets, culminating in a worldwide gross of roughly ₹338.32 crore.

Language-wise, the Hindi version has been the dominant earner, contributing approximately ₹148.65 crore net, followed by Kannada at ₹60.84 crore and Telugu at ₹25.43 crore. Day 14 occupancy remained modest, hovering around 18–20% across India, though metropolitan areas like NCR and Mumbai observed stronger demand during evening and night shows.

Hanuman Ansh: The Unstoppable Sleeper Hit

In a surprising turn of events, Hanuman Ansh, a low-budget devotional drama, has emerged as a significant sleeper hit. The film, which premiered on August 7, began its box office journey with a mere ₹0.10 crore net on its opening day and concluded its first week with just ₹1.08 crore.

The tide began to turn from its third week onwards, with collections showing a marked increase. The third week added approximately ₹10.40 crore, and the fourth week witnessed an explosion in earnings, raking in roughly ₹61 crore net. This surge was primarily driven by strong weekend performances, including ₹9.25 crore on Day 23, ₹12.75 crore on Day 24, ₹16.50 crore on Day 30, and a remarkable ₹22.75 crore on Day 31.

By Day 33 (September 9, 2026), Hanuman Ansh had amassed an India gross of ₹169.20 crore and an India net collection of ₹143.13 crore across 81,608 shows. Produced on a reported budget of only ₹1–2 crore, the film has far surpassed expectations, already exceeding ₹123 crore net by Day 31 and now charging towards the ₹200 crore net mark, underscoring its impressive long-tail run.

The contrasting box office trajectories of Toxic and Hanuman Ansh highlight the unpredictable nature of the Indian film market, where initial hype doesn't always guarantee sustained success, and modest beginnings can lead to monumental triumphs.
