Mumbai, India – Tata Power, a prominent Tata Group company, is scheduled to announce its second-quarter (Q2) earnings on November 11, 2026. This financial update follows a significant corporate development aimed at advancing India's renewable energy landscape.
Floating Solar Technology Partnership
In a move to bolster its clean energy portfolio, Tata Power has partnered with Ocean Sun, a Norway-based renewable energy technology firm. This collaboration will introduce Ocean Sun’s innovative membrane-based floating solar technology to India through a pilot project.
The joint venture will see the deployment of a 300-kilowatt peak (kWp) floating solar pilot project at Tata Power's Mulshi reservoir, located in Maharashtra. This initiative aims to thoroughly evaluate the technology's performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and scalability under specific Indian environmental conditions.
The pilot project is crucial for generating practical operational insights that will inform potential broader deployments in the future. India possesses substantial potential for floating solar installations, with estimates from the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) indicating over 102 GWp (gigawatt peak) of capacity. Such technology can significantly complement existing ground-mounted and rooftop solar solutions as the nation expands its renewable energy infrastructure.
Key parameters for evaluation during the pilot will include energy generation efficiency, capacity utilization factor (CUF), installation methods and timelines, system reliability, operational and maintenance requirements, capital expenditures, and overall commercial viability compared to conventional floating solar solutions.
