Tata Chemicals, Tata Investment Shares Surge on Tata Sons Listing Hopes

· · 2 min read

Shares of Tata Chemicals and Tata Investment Corporation surged following the RBI's rejection of Tata Sons' CIC registration surrender, reigniting expectations for a potential public listing of the group's holding company.

Shares of Tata Chemicals Ltd and Tata Investment Corporation Ltd experienced a significant rally on Tuesday, propelled by the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) decision to reject Tata Sons' application to surrender its registration as a core investment company (CIC). This move has brought the prospect of a mandatory public listing for Tata Sons, the primary holding company of the Tata Group, back into sharp focus.

Market Reacts to RBI Decision

Tata Chemicals shares soared 20 percent, hitting their upper price band at Rs 734.50. Concurrently, Tata Investment Corporation climbed 15.24 percent, reaching a day's high of Rs 750.30. Other Tata Group entities, including Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) and Tata Steel Ltd, also traded in positive territory, reflecting broader market optimism.

Analysts believe a potential IPO for Tata Sons could unlock substantial value for the group and enhance transparency. It would also provide an avenue for existing shareholders, such as Shapoorji Pallonji, to monetize their stakes. This development has triggered strong buying interest across various Tata stocks, including TCS, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Titan, and Tata Chemicals.

Outlook for Tata Chemicals

For Tata Chemicals, market experts have offered varied guidance:

  • Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services, identified near-term resistance at Rs 745 and suggested investors consider exiting on any further bounce.
  • AR Ramachandran, a Sebi-registered research analyst at Tips2trades, noted that Tata Chemicals is currently bullish but overbought on daily charts, with the next resistance point at Rs 747. He advised profit booking, cautioning that a daily close below the support level of Rs 704 could lead to a fall towards Rs 643 in the near term.

Outlook for Tata Investment Corporation

Similarly, analysts shared their perspectives on Tata Investment:

  • Singh projected an upside target of Rs 780 for the stock in the short term. He recommended a 'buy-on-dips' strategy between Rs 680-690, setting a stop loss at Rs 650.
  • Ramachandran also characterized Tata Investment as bullish but overbought on daily charts, with resistance at Rs 735. He advised investors to continue booking profits, as a daily close below the Rs 700 support level might trigger a downward move towards Rs 643 in the near term.
