Russia Introduces One-Year Multiple-Entry Business Visa for Indian Professionals

· · 3 min read

The Russian Embassy in India has announced a new one-year multiple-entry business visa for foreign citizens, including Indian professionals and their families, deemed "persons of interest." This visa allows repeated re-entries for business purposes, with a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period.

The Russian Embassy in India has announced a significant expansion to its business visa program, introducing a new one-year multiple-entry business visa. This initiative targets foreign citizens, including Indian professionals, and stateless persons who have been officially recognized as "persons of interest," along with their immediate family members.

Understanding the New Visa Category

This newly introduced one-year multiple-entry business visa is specifically designed to facilitate repeated re-entries into Russia for business purposes. It is crucial to note that this visa does not constitute a residence permit, nor is it intended for extended, continuous stays within the country.

Under current Russian migration law, holders of this multiple-entry visa are permitted to stay in Russia for a cumulative period of up to 90 days within any 180-day timeframe. This framework ensures that while business travelers can enter and exit Russia multiple times over a year, their total presence adheres to established short-term limits.

Previously, standard single-entry and double-entry business visas were valid for a maximum of 90 days. While multiple-entry business visas could be issued for either one or five years depending on the invitation, this announcement specifically broadens access to the one-year option for a defined category of applicants.

Essential Documents and Application Process

Applicants for the new one-year multiple-entry business visa must prepare a standard set of documents. The most critical component is an official letter of invitation, which must be an original document. This invitation can be issued by the Russian Federal Migration Service, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), or its regional offices. Alternatively, a six-digit reference number for visa support information, sent directly to the consulate, may be accepted.

The invitation letter must include specific details such as the official seal and legal address of the issuing agency, a document registration number, the date of registration, the signature and name of an authorized official, a clear travel itinerary, specified dates of stay, and the full names of the invited persons.

Other mandatory documents include:

  • Valid Passport: The passport must have at least two blank pages designated for visas and remain valid for no less than six months beyond the intended visa expiration date. Applicants should be aware that their passport will remain with the consulate throughout the visa processing period.
  • Completed Visa Application Form: This form must be obtained from the official Russian visa portal. It needs to be printed, with one passport-sized photograph securely attached. All fields on the form must be completed; leaving blank spaces is not permitted. If a field is not applicable, it should be marked with "N/A." Dates must be entered in the European format (day, month, year), and the form requires the applicant's original signature.

Incomplete, illegible, or unsigned application forms will not be processed and will be returned to the applicant.
